    A mediocre malt!
Nose is still okay, the rest is too thin and light!
Unfortunately, Highland Park whiskys are not my taste either way.

Only the nose was promising, the rest was below average.
    • Nose
      83 83
Pleasantly fruity and fresh. Sherry finish is unique.
    • Taste
      77 77
Watery and tasteless. Hardly actually there.
    • Finish
      79 79
The finish is again not as unpleasant and tasteless as the whisky in the mouth suggests.
But far from a good malt.

  4. Syleo scored this whisky 77 points Expert Senior

A neat, classic standard. Overall, however, a bit too thin for me with its 40%.
    • Nose
      80 80
Golden and with a light copper tone, fruit sweetness and oak spice mix in the balanced nose. Student food and dried fruit from plums and raisins to melon, orange and lime, the typical heather and heather honey, a few pine needles, warm caramel and dark, sweet smoke.
    • Taste
      78 78
With a slight woody bitterness, the alcohol drifts across the palate, pleasantly warms and brings back the heather flavor. Overall, unfortunately, a bit thin.
    • Finish
      73 73
Short and with a slightly floral-alcoholic note, the heather changes into the aftertaste of herbal candies.

  5. HammerHead scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

Subtle nose, watery taste, simple finish. ok-ish, but not interesting enough for an entire bottle, 35 cl will do just fine.
    • Nose
      83 83
Light, slihtly smoky and peppery, heather honey, green apples, floral, a little citrus.
    • Taste
      79 79
Thin and watery, sweet honey, barley sugars and vague fruitiness. Eventually some white pepper.
    • Finish
      80 80
Short, honied sweetness, mild liquorice and dry ashy wood notes.

Had it at 85 the last time I tasted it. but this time it convinced me! so two points up!
    • Nose
      87 87
light malt, acacia honey, faint smoke, green bananas and oranges. sunflower oil. almost has a coastal touch which I really like a lot.
it´s fresh and clean, spirit driven. I like it better than the 12er at least on the nose. not very complex but very pleasant.
    • Taste
      88 88
round and fresh, again this pleasant light malty side with a few almonds. very light peat and some honey. slightly salted caramel.
    • Finish
      85 85
some say it´s short in the finish but I tend to say medium.
looking forward to the next sip.

After I remembered the 12er quite well, this is already a disappointment. The nose was still pretty flowery fruity sweet, he is in the mouth, unfortunately, very watery, less smoky than the 12er and the sherry is not much to feel. Finish, what is it? Does not hurt anyone, but clearly harmless to me, too bad ...
    • Nose
Williams pear, light smoke, slightly alcoholic, later flowery sweet, vanilla sweetness and a hint of sherry
    • Taste
Very watery mouthfeel, the smoke comes out a bit stronger than in the nose, but is still only slightly noticeable, sugared citrus fruits and also here a little sherry
    • Finish
      Short slightly dry sherry finish

I found it delicious. Not as good as the 12 year old, but still ...
    • Nose
A touch of sea air, soft fruits, at a distance a small beach fire & a few boards of fresh wood. With water even more airy, in addition to malt, polished oak, smoky fruits and scattered toasted notes.
    • Taste
Clear and open start. Then a cloud of smoke rushes in & pulls over a table full of malted grains, sweet aromatic fruits and a potty of salt. Tingling with the addition of water. Sweet and salty at the same time, some smoke, yellow fruit, a touch of wood.
    • Finish
A cloud of sweetish smoke, memories of pipe tobacco, crushed fruits like mango, apricot and honeydew melon. At the very end, when you think that nothing can come, the fruity sweetness gets a salty companion. When using water fights a fruity-sweet sweetness with brine, served soft apricot as a moderator. All in all a longer finish than with no water.

Nose: A pleasant sweetness (similar to honey), notes of vanilla, a gentle peat aroma reminiscent of a salty sea breeze.
Taste: The honey sweetness continues and fruity notes such as apricot jam are added. You can feel some peat smoke and little bitterness from the barrels. Overall, too little body and a little pale.
    Finish: surprisingly short

Recommendation: A pleasing everyday whisky without special ambitions.

Conclusion: a good drinkable whisky, but falls back because of the low complexity and the short finish. A higher alcohol content (from 43%) had emphasized the contour of the whisky more. In this price range, the Highland Park 12 with a comparable price is the better choice.

    • Nose
sweet, yellow fruits (sugared pineapple, banana, apricot, orange), honey ... after a while, a fresh, salty note and light smoke are added

    Colour:

    Pale yellow.

    Smell:

A fresh, fruity, balanced and sweet whisky with aromas of lemon peel, delicate peat, wax, mineral tones, sea breeze, oranges, nuts (almonds), oil (maybe butter), vanilla, heather honey, pineapple, hint of mint, icing sugar, caramel, banana, red apple, a hint of tobacco, sweet spices, cedar wood and creamy oak.

    Taste:

A soft, bright, fresh and balanced whisky with aromas of lemon zest, candied orange zest, delicate smoke & peat, mineral tones (flint), hint of salt, almonds, honey, hints of dried stone fruits, berries, cake, apple, pear, soft ginger, sweet spices, crème brulée and again that creamy oak.

    Finish:

Medium long and slightly drying finish with aroma’s of lemon zest, sweet ginger, a little pepper, almonds, vanilla, honey, butter, slightly bitter tannins and creamy oak.

    Conclusion:

It’s a nice, bright and lovely whisky. It has a touch more smoke than the 12 year old but a little less depth. It’s quite subtle & soft and that leafs me longing for a bit more power. I would love to taste this at 46% and non-chill filtered. It’s unmistakingly a Highland Park. The distillery character comes through nicely and it’s a good introduction whisky to get to know the distillery. Well done.

    This was a very
    pleasant surprise. Thanks, Pat!
    • Nose
      The nose is a nice
mix of fruit on the one hand and some beautiful coastal elements on the other. The
fruit is fresh with lemon, oranges and some peach, while the coastal side is
heather, sweet peat (quite loud, actually), wet rocks, a sea breeze and some
candle was. It has a green side as well. Thyme? Very accessible.
    • Taste
      It is fresh and
lively on the palate from the start. Again the citrus, but soon some apples and
nuts kick in. But the peat, with a little salty streak, slowly but surely
starts to dominate – which is not a set back! It is quite oily.
    • Finish
      The finish is
somewhat short on almonds and honey. A drop of olive oil?

Once again Highland Park delivers a very decent quality product. There's no need of superlatives. Sometimes being plain good and affordable is sufficient. No need to say more.

This 35cl version was sold exclusively in The Netherlands and Germany. I've already seen it appear in some Belgian supermarkets. The price oscillates between €20 and € 25. The price difference between the 10 and the 12 year old should be a bit bigger if you ask me. By which I'm not suggesting a price increase of the latter one.
    • Nose
The nose is fresh and fruity. Ripe fruits, roses, heather and vanilla. Soft fruity notes of syrupy pineapples, oranges and peaches. There's also some sugar water and fresh mint roaming around.
Water makes it a little more bitter. Whiffs of honey, condensed milk and liquorice. Home made lemonade. This is a dram that only begins to get interesting after fifteen minutes in the glass.
    • Taste
The first impressions on the palate are bittersweet. Pineapple with its peel, light smoke and toasted oak. It evolves towards salted caramel and candle wax.
Water gives it more citrus notes. Be ware: one drip of water suffices!
    • Finish
The finish is short and dry. Bitter walnuts, coarse sea salt, rosemary and pink pepper.

A whisky that won't scare any potential Highland Park-fans away. It is accessible and goes down easy, but has no complexity and a finish that comes up short.
    • Nose
Honey, caramel, ripe banana and vanilla are the most dominant flavours in the nose. There is a subtle peat aroma accompanied by a light, salty sea breeze.
    • Taste
Sweetness at first, with honey and apricot marmelade. A hint of bitterness, as well as some peat smoke and licorice.
    • Finish
Surprisingly short and weak. Sweet licorice.

Honey, malt, vanilla, caramel, straw, apple and gentle peat. The nose is pretty nice and has a profile similar to the Svein. It lacks body though in comparison to that one. It`s decent, but the Svein is a better choice in this price class (per liter, that is) in my opinion.

I quite like this one. Very clean, very honest. Surprisingly full of flavor at 40%. Though I can understand why people wouldn't prefer this HP above other expression. I personally like this one more than the 12 and 15.
    • Nose
Clean, spirit driven. Lavender, heather. A little bit of smoke. Very pleasant in my taste.
    • Taste
Sweet and tingly. Peat. Very nice and tasty.
    • Finish
      Medium length. Heather and smoke.

  55. Franzman scored this whisky 76 points Expert Senior

A fresh nose, then a little bit of acid with a little smoke, but a nice sweet caramel / fudge scent lasts. Then the arrival, too simple and in the middle a sweet and the acid that keeps the top tone. The aftertaste is not much and is suppressed by the acid in the middle. In my view, a nice nose but a simple fresh flat Highland Park that underlies a good batch 12 years. 76 points.

  56. D3US scored this whisky 77 points Expert Senior

To me this is quite a step down from the 12-year old. But maybe for this age we shouldn't expect wonders. Enjoyable in some parts, but overall not up to HP code, in my opinion.
    • Nose
Heathery honey as one might expect, it's quite prominent here. The smoke is also there right from the start and slightly in your face, clearly hasn't had much time to settle. There's some fruit and spice as well, but not a lot of complexity here.
    • Taste
For its age this is quite mild. The harshness of the oak and smoke isn't as obvious as one would expect. There's a bit of a bitter pinch in the back, that's unfortunate.
    • Finish
The bitter note hangs around for a bit, making the fruit and honey fight their way forward through that and the smoke. When it finally does, there isn't much left in the finish to enjoy, really.
