    Part of a glenfarclas tasting

The room was rather divided on this one, but I loved it. Second only to the glenfarclas 40 year for me. Very full and rich, the abv works for me and no sulfur at all.
    • Nose
      90 90
Rich, decadent, chocolate of all sorts, tobacco, dried dark fruits
    • Taste
      91 91
Rich chocolate, buttery, tobacco, leather, sticky toffee pudding. Good mouthfeel. Soft and elegant. The abv works for me, but the proof whores want more...
    • Finish
      89 89
Chocolate, black tea, pipe tobacco, citrus tones reminding me of five alive. Finish is medium, but satisfying.

Beautiful, dry, complex nose: tobacco, chocolate, forest fruits, a tang of citrus. Earthly.
    • Taste
      88 88
Bitter, earthy taste. Wood tones, chocolate, dried fruit. At the end the tobacco stays on your tongue.
    • Finish
      88 88
Very dry, bitter finish without being or becoming uncomfortable. Medium to long.

Very musty nose, in taste a little better but can't convince me.
No where near the family cask range.

Full and soft, beautiful sherry tones, and lots of tobacco at the end.
    • Nose
Very soft, full and fruity, apple, prunes, chocolate, some raisins, berries
    • Taste
Full taste, but soft. Oil-like structure. Fruity, red fruit, and chocolate
    • Finish
Lightly tingling and warming now, some tobacco, red fruit, raspberries. Long finish, also real cigar tobacco at the end now ...

  10. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Beautiful Glenfarclas, with a little more oak than expected, still alive.
    • Nose
Relatively shy, beautiful oak, a little red wine, with time more of sherry rum raisins, leather, a hint of spice cabinet, but not too bad.
    • Taste
soft and sweet, then tart oak, some leather and above all very lively, sparkling.
    • Finish
the austere oak notes dominate at the beginning, a slight sweetness also manages to get through, then it becomes a bit stale, for a brief moment, to end up with a touch of tobacco and tart, slightly sour oak.

The nose is beautiful, the mouth and the final more withdrawn. With a few more degrees, could he have claimed more?
    • Nose
Ample, fresh, very fruity, the Sherry brings tons of yellow and white fruits (ripe peach, yellow melon), reds and blacks (plums, blackberries, black grapes). Sherry is not at all overwhelming, everything is very melted, of a great complexity, without any aggression, the low alcoholic rate probably helping. White grape pulp and coffee with milk, too. Beautiful nose!
    • Taste
Fresh, sherry, coffee more powerful than nose, raisins, but also roasted nuts. Less expressive and direct than the nose, I find this mouth a chouïa flat.
    • Finish
Average, quite tannic, not unlike some young cognacs.

I vary a little between 89 and 90 points. A great malt sometimes seemed like a cooked-up Glenfarclas. The whole flavors quasi bundled. Excellent! Here then unfortunately the issue price. Goods I believe around 200 ¬, and find that a little bit violent. Therefore 89 points.
    • Nose
The malt looks heavy and thick in the glass. On the glass wall adhere beautiful thick beads that slowly and evenly flow back.
Immediately, oak and a healthy dose of oranges are in the nose. Not as overripe or fruity as you know it from the piglets but really with proper zest. For the first time I can really describe a malt as "zesty" (I hope that's right). Even a few dark fruits mix under this strong oak. Hazelnuts and refreshing sticks mix in the orange zest. The barrel wort tingles a bit in the nose. Everything was very pleasant. Was briefly thinking of if I still have a few angegorene strawberries, but the aroma was gone too fast.
    • Taste
On the tongue, the oranges and the sherry for 2 to 3 seconds until the oak comes, it takes on all the taste buds. Only after really prolonged chewing of the malts does the oak release espresso beans in dark chocolate and a few more hazelnuts. Amazingly gentle, but neither boring nor lax.
    • Finish
Even in the finish, the oak is long, heavy and all-consuming. Slowly it gets a bit bitter. Like a sip of espresso on a solid wood table. After a while the zest comes through again.

Wow, what a drop! A true sherry monster, complex and yet very complex. The nose, the taste and the finish harmonize wonderfully. A real dream, I am thrilled.
    • Nose
Fine fruity sherry, the alcohol is perfectly integrated. The dark fruits mix with fine chocolate. A light, malty sweetness is pushing through the dark fruit. Through the nose, the salivation is stimulated and I want to finally drink the fine drop.
    • Taste
The first sip I have a wow experience! The full load of oak beats on my taste buds. Fruity and intense sherry mingles with the oak. Noble dark chocolate, fine espresso and intense fruit complete the taste experience. At the end there is a fine nutty note.
    • Finish
A long and warm finish with fine fruit, dark chocolate and espresso ends a wonderful taste experience.

  16. St. Pauli scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Very gentle, stays within boundaries. That's its quality but maybe also the reason for not standing out.
    • Nose
Honeyed cereals, eucalyptus, liquorice, slightly mineral
    • Taste
Quite thick and chewy. Again, honeyed cereals, a tad less eucalyptus, a bit of pepper and gingerbread
    • Finish
Slightly drying on spices and the honeyed cereals

apples, gingerbread, sticky toffee pudding with cream.

    • Finish
      More

  20. Titi94 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Tasting Notes by SCOMA :Aroma: Sweet of fresh honeycomb, Sherry prevails, but not overdone. A very good balanced nose. No calibration - very young 25er.

Taste: Dark bitter chocolate, light ginger influence garnishes with caramel and molasses pudding with vanilla sauce.

Finish: Long, with fresh Granny Smith apples.

Comments: This Refill Sherry Hogshead bottling combines the last 10 Quarter Cask - no barrel has stored less than 25 years.
