A very much corn heavy whiskey, which I don't like at all. Yes it's BiB, but still the experience is pretty watery with very distinct notes of over boiled mushy corn and stale corn cooking moisture on the palate and finish. Apparently people like this, but to me it's more or less a boiled corn disaster.

The US price level around 15 dollars seems about right.

Actually pretty ok with caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, glazed apple, cinnamon and some pretty subtle corn notes in the background. For 50% abv it's lacking real power though.

Here it runs downhill fast. Lots of stale, sickly sweet and overboiled corn notes accompanied by some caramel, vanilla and quite a lot of pepper. Flat and one dimensional (it's mainly boiled corn).

Yuck! Totally overpowering cooked corn notes and cabbage water with some generic wood bitters. Brrrr...

    USA Hidden Gems - Whiskey4all
    • Nose
Eggnog, spices - cloves and pepper, grenadine syrup and
      chipolata pie.
    • Taste
Very smooth given the high abv with vanilla - wood smoke, caramel and nuts - almond.
    • Finish
Very oaky, soft herbs and vanilla.

The brand of J.W. Dant has a long history with a lot of different owners and subsequent distilleries where it was made. You don't hear much of this brand, but I like it. May be not the most complex whiskey, but dangerously drinkable! Ridiculously cheap priced for a bottled in bond, but unfortunately difficult to get in Europe (as most of BIB Bourbon). The sample I got from Joshua was distilled in 1994 in Berheim's distillery (DSP-KY-1) now owned by Heaven Hill.
    • Nose
Starts with lots of strawberries and cherries. Dried apricot. Fragrant. Straightforward sour sweet vanilla as well. Some greenhouse notes of freesias and cut grass. Hints of mint later on.
    • Taste
Hot and spicy on the tongue with truckloads of cinnamon. Citrus fruit of lemon and lime followed by grapefruit bitterness. Later on more brown sugar sweetness. Raisins. Toasted nuts. Woody notes of cedar. Sappy and very chewy.
    • Finish
Quite long. A little nutmeg. Ginger. Liquorice. Pine at the end. Well balanced.
