Superb nose but which does not maintain its level in the mouth, what a pity. No madness, but still very pleasant to drink. Beautiful and delicate elegance.
    • Nose
Intense nose on a concentrate of leather. A dry rag full of turpentine placed on a new, waxed piece of wood. Dry atmosphere of a room that has remained unventilated for too long in summer. Classic dried fruits. Gingerbread soaked in caramel. Allowed to breathe, the dried fruits gain in freshness. Superb aromatic power for a reduction. Promising.
    • Taste
The power is gone. On well-dried precious wood, prunes, figs and Corinthian grapes. Beautiful subtly mentholated freshness. Beautiful and many spices in a cake. Diluted leather.
    • Finish
Finish on different layers of wood, all in finesse with chocolate milk. Dies in pretty notes of cold tobacco and nuts.

    Score is for drinking neat.
The 2nd aged sherry whisky tonight that you cannot rush, better than I was expecting, a juicy whisky :)

The nose is quite closed with few aromas on first nosing.
Even with a lid on the glass for a few minutes it still lacks a bit of oomph but you get some aromas coming through stewed dark fruits and well sherry I suppose, maybe a little water will free it up.
    • Taste
      92 92
Plenty of fruit but quite neutral, by that I mean not bitter or sweet.
As you go on there is a lot of spice and some sweeter Turkish Delight note and milk chocolate which is good.
The palate seems to thicken up becoming syrupy and then some lovely fruity sherry notes that were not present at first, perhaps because I did not have enough in my glass at first, who knows?
I like this one, bags of fruit now, blackberry, blueberry and a little cherry mixing with the sherry
    • Finish

Nice finish, fades slowly, remaining sweet.

With a few drops of water:-
The nose improves with a few drops of water but the palate has lost some of the rich fruit and the finish has also suffered a little so if you can get hold of a sample this is best neat in my view.

One of the best noses I've ever had in a glass. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite meet the expectations that have been stoked. Still a special drop

Syrup and cough syrup from childhood (1970s), fruits boiled down to lacquer, old wall units. Then bananas and plums, a great, multi-layered nose

Old school spicy sherry. Varnished wood, waxy fruits, citruses and green apple. Caramel.

[September, 2015]  I bought this bottle for 235 Euro in September 2008 and this is my last saved sample.

This is faultless old school sherry as you will not find it in modern bottlings anymore (unfortunately).  These three butts probably contained oloroso sherry for many years (not just weeks like today) before they were emptied in London (not Spain) and refilled with careful distilled Glen Grant shortly after that.

Yes, you feel it with every sip:  They had plenty of time back in 1964 and they did neither rush fermentation nor distillation.  It is perfectly matured and bottled exactly at the right time.  Simple stuff, but simply great!  Recommended to open with good friends, but do expect the bottle will be empty at the end of the day...

Always remember:  Warm the whisky/glass to body temperature before tasting, you will enjoy the difference!
