This is a beautiful delicious whisky that you can taste a lot in. A must for every whisky drinker who likes complex whiskies. The color is gold.
    • Nose
In the nose this whisky is fruity and spicy, with aromas of grapes, figs, lime, orange, black currants, red apples, cinnamon, cloves, aniseed and honey and vanilla.
    • Taste
The taste is sweet notes of vanilla, honey and malt at first. Then spicy notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, anise, pepper and a hint of mint. Also notes of roasted almonds.
    • Finish
Some sweet wood notes emerge in the aftertaste.

The blend of the three cask types delivers a beautifully complex affair, with the barley still expressive and fresh through the 12 year aging period. Only the 40% prevents this malt from reaching its true potential. Very tasty and no bad notes, but also a short half-life.
    • Nose
Oranges, tangerines, lots of honey, flattering barley, a weng marzipan, cinnamon, sweet floral notes caress the nose, peaches and apricots, vanilla plays a more subtle role, subtle toasted oak
    • Taste
Aromatic honey hits the palate, blood orange, tangerine, orange marmalade, peaches, crème brûlée, toasted oak with vanilla, caramel, the barley appears elegantly, nougat, milk coffee, nutmeg and cinnamon
    • Finish
Rather short and supple, beeswax, cinnamon, almonds, traces of cocoa, cappuccino, vanilla, gingerbread with orange peel, simply beautiful oak

With beautiful wood and a hint of citrus in the taste, easily drinkable and light-fruity, an absolute must as every-day scotch and entry-level model. Lesson 1 of good whisky without being sweet.
Oak benches in the fragrance, as far as I am concerned, the trademark of the Balvenies that I have been able to taste so far - most, very desirable Balvenies are beyond my budget. Non-offensive, a typical English-language term, which I consider untranslatable - and more often used to describe whisky - is very relevant here. I honestly cannot imagine that you really do not like this whisky as a lover. Maybe a bit flat or bland, impersonal or not very memorable - but dirty or unpleasant, no.
New liter bottle in 2018. Quickly empty. That is also due to the smooth application in my shares. Nonetheless: fine, nothing wrong with it, hazelnuts with soft wood, friendly vanilla, magic fairies and pink unicorns with rainbow backgrounds. Sweet, soft, woolly, cuddly, nothing wrong with that, nor anything at all.

    Color: amber

Nose: honey and beeswax. After a while in the glass, the very pleasing sweet aromas are forgiven. They make dry wood room, spices that tickle in the nose. Then again a floral honey sweetness (forest honey). Marzipan?

Palate: well-balanced, vanilla and sherry sweetness in harmony. Beeswax unknowable. Propolis. Buttersotch and malt. A ripe and fine sweetness. Not super complex and exciting, but rock solid.

    Long and warm finish.

If you're going for a simple, not so expensive Balvenie go for the Double Wood. This one is just too simple.
    • Nose
Very, very light weigth easy to please entry malt, so expect some honey, sweet cereals, sponge cake. Some citrus fruits and candy
    • Taste
Cookies, vanilla and some sugarred cornflakes. The body is too weak and don't play with water. Oh yeah it taste like light honey with some citrus.

An uncomplicated, yet elegant dram. Maybe 43% ABV would improve it further?
    • Nose
      Banana, vanilla, honey and citrus.

After some minutes in the glass, some fruitiness evolves.
    • Taste
Fresh citrus, vanilla, figs and some nutmeg.
    • Finish
Medium long and slightly bitter with faint pepper.

    • Nose
Fresh, light. Bananas with lemon juice. Light cake batter, a little vanilla sugar and mild honey.
    • Taste
Light honey, yellow apples, hazelnut. White chocolate with a slight spiciness. Medium.

  26. Calmar scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

Quite simple and uncomplicated talk, pleasant and piteous; although a considerable amount of oak can scare off a part of the audience, sherry barrels are clearly not felt, working in the background, smoothing and polishing the bourbon derivatives.
    • Nose
Restrained, moist, wood, both freshly worked and seasoned; notes of carpentry workshop, resin, solvent, fresh herbal shades, a little fried nuts, mineral-floral tones.
    • Taste
Soft, enveloping, oily, a lot of different wood, more fresh; light vanilla shades, creamy confectionery tones, a little black pepper, vegetable sweetness.
    • Finish
Light, woody-herbal, tart, slightly oily with barely perceptible peppery notes and roasted nuts.

    • Finish
Slightly bitter forest honey, sweet, the oak is there

Disappointing whisky actually. Not very bad, but very flat. The Balvenie Double Wood is a favorite daily dram, and 'Triple Cask' promises a lot.
But this Triple Cask does not come close to the Double Wood. Smell is still nice, but taste and finish are left behind. The influence of the sherry barrel is not perceptible here, unlike the Double Wood for example.
No, I prefer to keep it at the Double Wood and Caribbean Cask bottlings when it comes to Balvenie, and I let it stand.

Pretty flat and 'thin' whisky, where the odor is the best, taste and finish can not come along.
    • Nose
Pleasant, sweet, honey, vanilla, also fruity. Light, hardly alcohol perceptible too.
    • Taste
Flat, thin. Sweet, honey, vanilla. Slightly fruity. And nuts.
    • Finish
      Somewhat short, sweet, light pepper.

    N-
Pretty and charm, frizzy bubble gum-ish, solvent sweet tea notes, cream
soda. Modern, but no harm here and very pleasing. Soothing floral
drifting with sawdust and some caramel emerge at the tail.

    P-
Custard, some spices with fruits, prunes, apricot are presents with well
integrated wood. Not too oaky, which is nice but lack a wee bit body
and light thin on palate. But this is pretty good.

F- Short, light and simple without being too generic. Touch of waxy coating.

Not the best Balvenie. The ABV is low and the bourbons dominated. But for everyday drinking it's perfect.
    • Nose
Highly fruity: apple, pear and grape, bourbon vanilla, toffee, anise, oak and sherry
    • Taste
Light flavors, bourbon dominated. Spices: pepper, mint, vanilla and cinnamon, green apple and apricot jam

Nose: Nice, floral, fruity, stewed apples. some grapes too. And there is the 'modern' nose in it, so the vanilla and toffee notes. Quite a strong bourbonwood influence if you ask me. Hint of mint, yet not very complex

Taste: Sweet and sour, vanilla and toffee, hint of sherry, not very outspoken. Hint of dust. Some tannins but not much

    Body: thin

Finish: short-medium. Vanilla and oak, some toffee. But it fades away quickly.

Price: Should be no more than 40 euro's a litre, so this is about 50% overpriced.

Presentation: Don't know, this was a sample from whiskytrader.nl

Note by Serge Valentin from whiskyfun.com:

Balvenie 12 yo 'Triple Cask' (40%, OB, +/-2015) Lol, after the double, the triple. Soon plywood ;-) Colour: gold. Nose: it’s got more herbal, mentholy, and even camphory aromas, which is nice. That may mean more oak extraction, but we’ll have to wait until we’ve got it on the palate. Hints of crème de menthe, and perhaps not a lot of Balvenian flowers and yellow fruits. Unless, these distant whiffs of old roses, and even litchis… Mouth: I have to say this works. I’m not into carpentry, especially with my whisky, but I have to admit that this was smartly made, and I even find some Balvenie-ness. Mirabelles, apricots, light honey… And mint, vanilla, green tea… Tends to get drier. Tea tannins. Finish: medium, starting well, but becoming a little too drying. Just a little. Comments: oh well, this is really good, let’s not deny ourselves a good things. And they haven’t dumped the age statements, which I find extremely smart. SGP:451 - 83 points.

I’m glad I bought this. A very tasty dram indeed, with some interesting aspects. The creamy vanilla custard quality is something I haven’t tasted often. The crisp malt is truly Balvenie and the light spice and fruits are rather lovely. I won’t call this an absolute cracker of a whisky, but very enjoyable it is, nonetheless.
    • Nose
A nice, creamy aroma at first. Clear, crisp barley malt, followed by a lovely Bourbon kick. Some sweet spice, maybe cinnamon coming in, together with some soft oak. Soft, light fruit now. Apricot, plums perhaps, peach even. Vanilla sweetness and that soft spice seem a good fit here.
    • Taste
Quite a mellow arrival. The creaminess is still there, I really like that. Oak kicking in now, making it slightly sharper on the tongue. Cinnamon spice and vanilla sweetness help to bring that crisp malty note come forward too. I’m finding it hard to notice the fruit very clearly now. It reminds me more of processed fruit. It makes me think of a breakfast table; honey, lemon curd, marmalade, apricot jam, sweet spreads to put on your toast. Vanilla custard to be washed down with cinnamon tea.
    • Finish
I’m not overly impressed with the finish. The spice and oak, that would normally make sure of a lengthy finish, die out a little too quickly, leaving mostly sweet things like vanilla, malt and marmalade in the end. It’s nice, but it’s over quickly.

Far better than Doublewood in my opinion, but lacking some depth as well. Perhaps they should have been bottle this at higher ABV.
    • Nose
Mmm... that's delicious! Fruity, floral (white and yellow flowers mainly), lemon marmalade, maybe a hint of custard pie. It's got a kind of new magazine glossiness to it, converting into solvent-y, nearly acetone-like fruitiness at some point. There go mango?, avocado, kiwi, lime, white grapes?, fruit jelly, tinned pineapple?, luscious pear, a slice of sponge cake, sugar candies, tarts, cream soda, fresh edible green as well. Shortly more wood comes to light. Very mild, appetising, mildly sweet aroma basically. Harmonious.
    • Taste
Light (thin) mouthfeel, fairly sharp at first, then tones down a little. Fresh bitter notes break in: wintergreen, eau de cologne, vibrant citruses, bergamot orange?, cardamom, turpentine (soft resin), slightly papery note, sapwood. Plain, pretty narrow really, however it's not dull, not in the least. After the strengths had been accumulated, a bigger intensity starts to flow into mid-palate, to push up like increasing waves, again not too big - modest. But the excitement arise not for long. It dries out now, still a tad alcoholic, herbaceous, tamely bitter, sour, acrid apple vinegar.
    • Finish
Short, yet heading for a medium length. Woody, a bit dry, botanical dry, citrus tingle, lemon peel/rind, anise, thyme, oregano, clover honey, sour dock. Dies away through salty notes of acidic brine, kelps, and lemon juice drizzle over dry toasted almonds. It is rounded all right, by the way.
