Whisky Reviews for Glenturret 1977 WM
8 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.10 points
- A good Glenturret 1977, with a rather odd profile, even odd, compared to those that I could taste so far.
Pleasant nose with notes of orchard fruit, citrus fruits (lemon in the head), malt, honey and spices. Something fat is revealed behind all this, with a trail of dust and patches of weathered wood. The whole is melted while letting draw the various aromas, harmonious and deep.
The attack is slightly bitter before giving way to fruity and citrusy notes of citrus (with grapefruit this time in mind) then roasted (coffee with milk) and finally more dirty (steel, industrial oil). The palate is round, fat, with some hints of bitterness or acidity here and there.
Long, in a mixed register between acidity and bitterness, on a hint of spices.
- Note by Wilson & Morgan;
This sister cask of our beloved Cask#30 from the same vintage shares a lot of the same surprises… a lovely malt from a little known distillery, with a richness that is hard to find in modern malts. What makes this bottling slightly different is that while the incredibly fruity nose and palate are quite similar (with stunning notes of overripe tropical fruits), the sweet and estery notes are slightly more restrained, and have to fight with an even deeper minerality and tannins from the oak. From beginning to start, the fruitiness must arm wrestle for dominance with intense notes of red Pu-erh tea, wood polish, and medicinal herbs infusion… even more than in Cask#30. A lovely and complex old malt, truly deserving of Collector’s status!
Beautiful exotic fruits (pineapple in particular), butter, a little perfume, white flowers. Bright nose, amazing for a 35yo - at the opening of the bottle what is more.
Quite fat, always fruity and pastry. Once again, he is younger than his age. Creamy texture. Hazelnut.
Long and very fruity.
