[February, 2019] Just a quick review of a sample...

...and this is one of these modern dirty drams with lots of flaws and off-notes (that nonetheless attract many followers, especially in Germany - tell me: Why are the Germans so dirty?). Sorry dear fellow citizens, but I prefer drinks of the angels and not a spirit that is spoiled by the devil!
    • Nose
      81 81
The colour is amontillado sherry and the nose offers a modern sherry profile with sour-cheesy notes and some sulphur. This profile reminds me a lot of Tobermory-Ledaig - but to be honest, this is way too dirty as to be of my liking...
    • Taste
      77 77
The taste is almost an exact copy of the nose except that the sulphurous flavours are even stronger here. No, I do not want to search for any other flavours - I prefer to use the spittoon asap...
    • Finish
      74 74
The dram arrives hot and peppery on the palate with that disgusting scurfy mouthfeel all sulphur-spoiled whiskies own. The finish is (because of the sulphur) long what is not an asset in this case. Water strengthens the diabolic side of this dram only...

    For me the perfect whisky
    • Nose
Sherry bomb with a light smoke banner. Fruit compote, raisins, nuts, walnuts. Greasy smoke, no Islay smoke. Sweet.
    • Taste
Sweet, creamy, silky, oily in the taste. Again sherry u. a little bitter, drier. Oak is available. In addition, this subtle smoke.
    • Finish
In the finish, the sweetness subsides, there are coffee flavors and dark chocolate.

nearly no peat on the nose. difficult to find the PX too.
but astonishingly more on the taste.
after some minutes in the glass a very intense mixture of sweet sherry and rather heavy peat leads us to an interesting experience.
    unique stuff.

    • Nose
      Mmmmh ... smells delicious!
Tacky sweet, heavy sherry. Dark Forest Fruit Jam. Slightly sourish some leather and tobacco behind. Over it a very fine plume of smoke, which I did not notice at the beginning. Ripe, complex and aromatic.
    • Taste
Creamy mouthfeel. Almost oily. Beguilingly sweet. Plum liqueur. Mousse au Chocolat. On the palate, it becomes very tart and shows a hint of oak, smoke and almonds.
    • Finish
Long, warm and sweet. Some smoke remains in the throat.

Distilled in Scotland (Islay ? Caol Ila ?) in 2006 and fully matured in four Pedro Ximenez seasoned 250 liters casks (Media Bota) in Burgundy, France. This single malt has been reduced from 53% to 49%.

Trade fair tasting: PX sweetness with a fine smoky note. Clear peat aroma with sweet fruits and berries.

  8. wisekycourse scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

On the nose, the characteristic licorice, light peat "smoke", fine, noble wood (dry and strong, old grimoir!)
On the palate, sherry, sweet spices, almonds and candied orange-black fruits, all marry perfectly, a deluge of scents with a slight trace of smoke!
In the finish, the wood comes back, with varied spices, and a smokier feel, lingering finish, with a spicy return stronger, maybe too much! a very good dram that signs a gateway to character whiskys!

For me it is clearly behind the overaged in barrel strength, which is available at a comparable price. No purchase candidate for me as long as I get the overaged.
