  1. Ras Mazunga did not rate this whisky Super Administrator

after adding some water a very gentle, delicate whisky. delicate not meaning 'no taste' but more like subdued. everything in this whisky is on a low level except for the alcohol.. my first auchentoshan btw. sample courtesy of Bachess.
    • Nose
spicy wood, quiet a lot of alcohol, too much sting in the nose at 63.7%, after some water: vanilla, melon, maybe some pear,
    • Taste
lots of melon, some vanilla, peppermint, lime, later more and more malty, a hint of tabacco
    • Finish
      peppermint, sweet, some metal taste

Something of an outsider Auchentoshan, that absolutely needs water. But the silver foil tails you from nose to finish and is an absolute off note. Thanks to Bachess for the sample.
    • Nose
While Auchentoshan is instantly recognizable on the nose, there is little to be called delicate about this whisky. The high ABV delivers a strong sting to the nose. Quite some grains and vanilla, but also melon, pear, yellow apples, violets and a strange, metallic twist. Woodspice. With water, it becomes more familiar. Yes, that is much better.
    • Taste
Somewhat creamy on the palate, but so astringent! That ABV again – phew – some sweet malt, bags of citrus and melon, but also eucalyptus and again that metallic thing. Weird! Diluted (but don’t add too much water!) it becomes fruity and peppery. Much better.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
    • Finish
The finish is long, spicy and warm, but you are left with the feeling as if you have got a piece of silver foil in your mouth.
