Whisky Reviews for Glenburgie 1989 CWL

10 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.36 points

  1. Gloin scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

The smell is unusual, the bright fruit notes are very spicy and paired with spices, which I usually know more in connection with sherry-heavy whisky. In the mouth, he loses a bit of the exotic and is very oak dominated, as well as the finish. An internal whisky, probably not suitable for everyone, as it is neither very accessible nor pleasing. I like him a lot. blind tasting
    • Nose
The first impression is hard to decipher, spicy, vanilla, baked apple, slightly alcoholic ... I prefer to leave that for a moment. ... After a while he becomes more accessible, the sharpness of the alcohol gives way, the individual notes become clearer. Tart apple, vanilla, some cinnamon, spicy and not very sweet, dry white wine, some grass and sawdust, clove, after a while getting a little sweeter
    • Taste
Fairly heavy body and strong onset, apple juice, apple peel, a little lemon, sorrel, a hint of ginger, strong oak, first dry, then sweeter
    • Finish
Tart, intense, slightly bitter oak, slightly sour, bread crust, long

    • Nose
A lot of pep, lemon, a little spice, white pepper. It's pretty clean, fresh and accurate. Very nice nose. Complex and woody. Traces of smoke? A little medicinal touch with eugenol. A little yeast, mold, gouache. Some wax, a lot of vanilla. Honey. Citrus. A little sap too. So greedy.
    • Taste
The mouth is a little behind by cons. Younger and alcoholic than the nose. Quite powerful. "Hot", ginger, cloves, lemon. A lot of wood in the final.
    • Finish
Development quite cereal, and bitter final marked by the wood. Average length

  3. Bishlouk scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

A fruity / woody very interesting. Tastes and smells make a rotation, giving a certain complexity that is welcome.
    • Nose
Fresh fruit, green wood, a hint of hazelnut. Citrus notes. Very sweet, greedy. After aeration, cereal notes surface; then beeswax.
    • Taste
A very great sweetness of sweet fruits. Little tingling on the tip of the tongue. Lâ €
    • Finish
From the wooded drought, a slight bitterness. A little wax comes back afterwards.

    • Finish
Medium to long, lemon, walnuts, banana, honey, green apple, cinnamon, oak, vanilla and mint.

this is a shy whisky for it age,  81 points
    • Nose
      little sour, white wine
    • Taste
again this white wine idea, are you sure it is not a finish
    • Finish
bitter with a little sweet, but it fades away quitly

  7. Toffie76 scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Re-tested, beautiful evolution with ventilation. If I had to quote it today, I would set it to 88. Good bottle! Recommended for lovers of fruity-lemony - woody

  8. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

N: grains - bread, hay, honey, exotic fruits, plums and peach
T: grains - bread, iron, walnuts and bitter fruits - blood orange
F: medium with sweet fruits, vanilla, pear and spices

  9. markjedi1 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

The nose and finish were okay, while I found the
    palate enchanting. Middle-of-the-road Speysider.
    Around 90 EUR.
    • Nose
Hey! Waxy nose with only a little fruit, but
immediately mineraly. Wet rocks and even the smell of a First Aid kit. Hint of
vanilla, white fruit and citrus. Something of yoghurt or cheesecake. Slight
bitterness. Pleasant, though not earth shattering.
    • Taste
On the palate, it surprises by not only being pretty
spicy (loads of pepper, little bit of ginger), but also a lot more fruity. Candied
fruit, mostly from the citrus family. The yoghurt evolves into coconut milk.
The bitterness from the nose returns. The vanilla is much louder now.
    • Finish
The finish is rather long, spicy and fruity, but dies
      a bitter death.

  10. MaltMartin scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

A very subtle and delicate Glenburgie. An enjoyble dram.
    • Nose
Yeasty notes intermingled with soft fruit (grapefruit, oranges and red berries). Also hay and heather. Later on some mint.
    • Taste
The fruitiness remains. Lemon and vanilla. Quite complex. The taste develops through time.
    • Finish
Long and fresh. Bitter-sweetness. Nice oakiness.
