Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 1997 CWL

12 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.21 points

  1. Donwaldorf scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

A young Clynelish who lacks power, complexity and personability. A Whisky that can please, especially to the uninitiated.
    • Nose
      Fresh fruit (peach?).
There is like a tip citric (digestion?), Woody, a little sweet side and finally a note of wax "classic Clynelish".
    • Taste
      Light attack, aqueous.
Then there is fruit, always this citric side, woody and vanilla.
      Finally some vegetal notes.
    • Finish
      Short, vegetal, woody and vanilla.

  2. wisekycourse scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

On the nose, it's pasty, then the lemon explodes literally, then a cooked vegetable taste, finally sweet pepper and paraffin!
    2nd:
sweet fruit, melted wax, subtle scented feel!
    • Nose
      intense nose
    • Taste
      more sweetness

  3. MaltMartin scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

A good Clynelish with a waxy mineralic profile which is well known of this distillery.
    • Nose
Grapefruit, apples and tropical fruit. Some wet stones. Floral notes as well.
    • Taste
Typical Clynelish waxiness. Minerals. Sweetness intermingles with bitterness. Spicy later on.
    • Finish
Medium long. Becomes more bitter at the end.

  4. ErrHaBe scored this whisky 86 points Expert Junior

Reiner Bourbonfaßausbau, really delicious to drink and quite complex. buy candidate
    • Nose
Malt, waxy notes, light alcoholic notes and bitter notes, light fruits (pineapple and pear), green branches and light acidity
    • Taste
Bizzelling alcohol, vanilla and malt, again fruits and sweetness, barrel notes
    • Finish
Sweet, long finish, filling the room and drying out at the back. Vanilla sugar and wood. Long after swallowing, there is still a small raspberry

  5. lachaineduwhisky did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

There are fruits but ultra-dominated by the waxy side of Clynelish, in a hyper-thick version, which lets pass a little malt. Round and silky. Rarely has a nose evoked liquid textures. In the mouth we find its sensations, with a sweet side. Final clean but short, on the fruits. No spices. I hope a little water will boost all that. On the nose, vanilla and lemon emerge for my greatest pleasure. In the mouth too! With some pep, the spices having cleared a path.

    Enthusiasm 4/5

Ok, without leaving a lasting impression
    • Nose
White wine, intense tangerines, Hubba Bubba
    • Taste
Brandy, sweetness, apple, light bitterness, well balanced, not overly complex
    • Finish
      medium

    • Nose
      Fruity (citrus, lemons), creamy, oily
    • Taste
      Grassy, creamy, nutty, smoky
    • Finish
      Medium long, sweet, dry

  9. Jean-Brice scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

    Pleasant
    • Nose
      Lemon, mineral,
    • Taste
      fat
    • Finish
      Long

  10. Ikkakumon scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Typically Clynelish, very good for those who love style.
    • Nose
Friendly, wax, fruits (citrus fruits, pears, bananas, muscat grapes), some mineral notes, hay, a hint of pepper

      With water: the lemon springs.
    • Taste
Oily texture, first on cereals and wet stone. The fruits then appear and are submerged by a thick layer of spices (especially pepper). A small salt point is present.

      With water: no noticeable differences.
    • Finish
      Long and relatively bitter.
