  1. Calmar scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A young, uncrowned Talisker, the basis is very wiry, quite a lot of peat, there is no harmony with the barrels, but overall not bad.
    • Nose
Open, dry, spicy wood, medicinal herbs, mixed notes, wood dust, creamy shades, nuts.
    • Taste
Oily, slightly sharp, young, oak, sweet syrup notes, lemon peel, ash and peat shades, pepper, caramel, lemonade tones.
    • Finish
Light, sweet-watery, peat, oak, lemon peel, tobacco leaf.

First nose that evokes a woody bourbon (!) And the smoke comes gradually integrate, revealing its identity. That's grilled ham in the mouth. Final very muscular for 45.8 °!

    Enthusiasm 4/5

  3. Allandale scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

a rare Talisker. The 10 year is much better
    • Nose
      Decent,sweet little bit smoked.
    • Taste
smoke, yes indeed, but more sweet than smoke. Where is the complexity from this one.
    • Finish
good, middle long. But I mis something.

    The first Talisker
that I really did not like very much, because of the soapy palate.
    • Nose
      Somewhat weird nose
that goes up and down like a yoyo between the typical maritime elements on the
one hand and all kinds of fruits that you would associate with a sherry cask on
the other. It is searching, to no avail, for a balance between the peat and
salt here and the mild raisins and double baked bread crust there. Something
floral even. The maritime elements eventually win out.
    • Taste
      Nicely oily, but
immediately very floral. Damit, this is very close to soapy! Some roasted nuts
emerge, sprinkled with honey, but Midpalate the peat and salt take the
      tastebuds hostage (words carefully chosen).
    • Finish
      The medium long
finish, still on the floral side, ends in a brackish note on black pepper.

  5. Timo scored this whisky 73 points Expert Junior

A Talisker for whose existence I think no reason. The 10 year old is definitely better. Although this is not a bad single malt.
    • Nose
The nose is medium. Smoky, dorky, musty, after sea air.
    • Taste
The taste is not so complex. Peaty, smoky, salty, malty, spicy.
    • Finish
The finish is short. Peaty, salty, more smoke, peppery.

Yes. 75 points means a good interesting whisky but not a classic.

[April, 2014]  I had this dram during a FoSM club tasting. In
my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 85.
My notes state "nice Talisker, but I had better ones..."
