Eye: Same appearance as the 14 yo. Nose: Vegetal peat (a little cow dung reminiscent of Ardbeg, but nowhere near as strong). Dusty hay barn. Heavy caramel, maple, hesitant vanilla cake. Mouth: Little numbing to the tip of the tongue. Ginger and black pepper. Allspice. Coconut fat. Grease (as opposed to wax) of freshly baked pastry. Sweet orange. Cereals. A little driftwood. Tannins. Not much coating. Drop of water brings out orange notes. Note: Proper Longrow. ABV is pushing it, but doable. Not as layered as the 14, and not as addictive. But lovely dram.

I was a bit disappointed with this bottling. I had expected more. Tasted it at a friend's house recently. I enjoyed it, but it paled next to the Madeira 14 and the Longrow 18 2013.

Not my favorite type of Longrow profile but it's OK.

Lots of cigar smokiness, dust, it's not clean at all, like a dirty one.
Quite violent too.
This one is a real bad boy and you have to be in the mood for meeting it.
When it happens it's excellent, but I needed to insist to understand this is a a good and original whisky. Very different of the Springbank R&K which is so easy to taste.
I love Islay

Sample at Springbank Openday 19/05/2016 (£1 for 1cl)

At first acetate but that subsides to aromas of a dunnage warehouse! Damn moist vegetal aromas. Then a familiar carbolic soap - complex carbolic followed by plaster of paris? - its some sort of hospital aroma bandages and the like. Some chalk and soot.

Very chewy texture. sweet creamy toffee subsides to citrus sweet and sour and then a rather dryer finish - i think the oak shows up here. It is like cocoa powder without much of the chocolate richness.

Smoke and peat linger along with a little sour citrus and some black tea.
