What a great taste! The nose reminded me of the not so great PC 10, on the palate but that's awesome! No water!
    • Nose
Pure: neat thick, peaty smoke, immediately reminiscent of the PC 10 with 46%, again pretty farm-like. Spicy wood, leather, neat leather and tobacco, pipe tobacco! Behind it a little sherry, ripe apple. Nose blind around the age of 18. With water: a little more smoke, more fruit.
    • Taste
Pure: not spicy at all, sweet, delicious peat, honey, then smoke, and again smoke. Only now does a little oak sneak up from behind, but the syrupy sweetness wins the fight. Oily without end. Here the taste beats the nose worlds! With water: still sweet onset, but the oak now beats faster and harder. Drink pure!
    • Finish
as in taste, long, not bitter, nice sweet.

I enjoyed the quirks of this whisky more than its positive attributes. Surprisingly, I didn't find that it oxidized over time very well. This is quite unusual for a Springbank distillery whisky. Usually, they age over time like a sergeant.

I recommend finishing the bottle between the three month mark and the one year mark. That's when it was best for me. I owned two bottles and remember this fact off the top of my head. I didn't take notes.

Wonderful nose! Sweet peat. Bread pudding, caramelised sugar and vanilla cream. Creme Brûlée! Toffee apple. Onto the peat which has a medicinal quality…. rubber plimsolls, clay, putty, creosote, coal, soot, charcoal (once cold). A spiciness develops afterwards that introduces cloves and nutmeg.

Incredibly oily with an obvious funkiness that plays well with the sweetness. Dark sugary fudge, soft, salted toffees. Clove and aniseed add a layer of spice afterwards.

Beautiful rush of oily smoke followed by orange oils and spice. Dried cristingle oranges peppered with cloves.

For me it is the perfect balance between the strength of the youth, the complexity of the barrel and above all a wonderful smoke.
    Meets my taste very well.
