Nose: Quite spicy with distinct roasted aromas at the beginning. Then forest honey, wood polish, caramel and raisins, ripe citrus notes and intense mineral, slightly churned and out of round. Needs time, then he shows a very beautiful old-styled tone, noble sherry and always harmonious.
Mouth: Again spicy, hot, almost aggressive, but of very high quality. Well integrated honey sweetness, ripe oranges, apricots, dry sherry. Again, subtle roasted aromas, large expansion, wave-like on the palate and on the tongue. The alcohol carries, but is not too high.
Finish: Long, dry, astringent, clear wood, old-style sherry and peppery.
Conclusion: An enormous powerhouse, especially for a Balvenie! On the whole he was a bit too dry, but showed a nice complexity and a wonderful old-style tone!
