I personally found wood a nuisance, I preferred the 12 with more distillery character and fruit.

    - a good, solid 15 year old single malt
    - significant increase compared to the 12 year old bottling
    - for about 40 € a fair price for a delicious malt
    • Nose
      Sherry, more wood aroma (oak)
    • Taste
Relatively little in the mouth at first, followed by fruit and oak (plum, dark fruits), very soft and mild
    • Finish
      medium-long, soft finish;
      medium-long, warm, sweet aftertaste

From the horse’s mouth, ‘Reserve’ [at Glenlivet] indicates that only a proportion of a ‘batch’ is re-racked – in French oak casks in this example – and the rest kept back, as opposed to ‘finishing’ where all of the batch contents is re-racked. In this case, 30% of the overall batch has been re-racked for two years.

N: Sour cereal mash and raisins.

T: Sharp and malty at first, turning decidedly savoury with a dry astringency.

F: Sour green with deeper oaky signs of ageing.

C: Though a tad tannic, I like it. 15 is a good age for whisky.

Much rounder and softer than the original Glenlivet 12. The French oak has imparted spices like cinnamon and ginger, giving this Glenlivet a soft 'christmas feel' while retaining it's freshness. It's nice sipping whisky, not too complex.
    • Nose
Fresh laundry(very glenlivet),vanilla, red apple, citrus fruits and a bit flowery. Later on notes of cinnamon and fresh baked bread appear.
    • Taste
Creamy vanilla fudge, grapefruit, stewed pears, christmas bread, ginger and a whiff of smoke.
    • Finish
Cloves, almonds, vanilla, caramel, oranges and a tiny bit of smoke.

I'm not sure if this is a step up from the Glenlivet 12yo.
    • Nose
Oranges and kumquats, but also fermented red grapes, stewed pears and marzipan, with a touch of oak shavings. Also some fudge.
    • Taste
Pretty creamy with plenty of wood. Rum raisins, cinnamon and brown sugar, but also something citric. It's delicate.
    • Finish
Some vanilla and some spices. Drying. Ends on a slightly bitter note. Short to medium in length.

    very disappointing, it’s glenlivet 12
infused with malt and red wood, no elegance, no marriage, distinctly a 12 with
additives. the only good thing about this was that it came with 2 free tasting
    glasses
    • Nose
      pears, malt, wood
    • Taste
      pears, slightly heavy fruits, malt
      sweetness, lightly buttered pepper, wood
    • Finish
malty bitter sweet, pears, black pepper, spiced wood, cinnamon

  20. Goethe scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

Very dry and very light and weak. You would expect something more mature after 15 years in the barrel. Quite a disappointing Glenlivet.

    Concerning price/performance ratio: 6/10 (2015)
    • Nose
Vanilla, lightly fruity, lightly spicy, some cider, a touch of glue.
    • Taste
Some fruits, red fruits, oak, caramel, vanilla.
    • Finish
      Short. Dry oak. Some nuts.

N: Heavily sherried dram in colour and nose. Everything is closed up so far. Stewed apples and pears, cloves - very cider like. Theres a lot of wood influence here muddying the flavours and a muddy/clay note too. Very likely there’s caramel having an influence to the ‘cloudiness’ too.
T: Extremely consistent and easy flowing honey wine, due in part to the low abv. Chewy fudge with some oat cereals followed by wood tannins and a herbal notes appearing after the sweet honeyed caramel has shown its card.
F: Floury, doughy, sandalwood, Condensed scrapings [or licks] of ice-cream & caramel that have oxidised on the plate hours after enjoying a good sweet dessert.
C: A light and pleasant dram. More complexity than there 12yo in general but not overly challenging either way. Some score it down for this, others score it highly for that fact.

    Scores a B-

The best of Glenlivet's standard offerings in my opinion. Liquid Dessert.
    • Nose
Signature glenlivet caramelised pears.Raisins. Apple Crumble (Rich and sticky). Hints of good armagnac. Thick grape syrup. Honeyed Wood. Sour Cream. Stewed fruit in custard. Sticky Toffee Pudding.
    • Taste
Rich wood notes. Raisins. Maple Syrup. Varnish. Cinnamon buns with icing. Dry white wine.
    • Finish
Medium length. Rich fruits. Light Spice. Vanilla Toffee. Dry woodiness and woodspice lingers.

    Poor quality.

In my opinion it has nothing to offer except some hints of profile on the nose with an approach of space and a after-finish which is not tasting bad - but only of you do not go too far ...
    • Nose
oaky spiciness, some cooked pear and some pear puree, quince, some applesauce, light and bright fruitiness, spicy vanilla-sweetness, lemon peel, maybe faint hints of leather, certain creaminess as well, faint hints of sweet glue, hints of fruit tea, pretty weak, hints of cinnamon, spiciness is then getting a bit stronger, somewhat chunky, some herbals, maybe hints of pantry
    • Taste
nutty alcoholic above all and throughout, kind of sharp edged, clear spiciness, traces of vanilla try to emerge, faint hints of apple juice and fruit gums with green apple taste, wood, sweetness cannot manage to break through
    • Finish
spiciness, some vanilla, nut, maybe fermented grapes and pears, apple juice, feeling of alcohol which is quite cheapish, wood, almost anesthetic on the tounge; in the end there is some applesauce, slight woodiness and a touch of cinnamon - this to me is nearly the best of all in this whisky.

    • Nose
Mild. Light spice. Vanilla. Oak. Tart grapefruit. Cherries. Pear. Nutty.
    • Taste
Gently. Soft. Vanilla. Light acid. Grapefruit. Some oak.
    • Finish
Medium. Sweet. Vanilla. Almonds. Creamy. Some grapefruit. Dry.

  32. p4blo scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

Much better whisky than the 12yo and the difference in price is well worth the investment.
    • Nose
Much more going on here than in the 12yo. Again, the fruity side dominates, but the notes are much more clear and entertaining. Vanilla, honey sweetness accompanied by light fruits, some oranges and mandarines on top of the apples and pears.
    • Taste
Sweet on the fruity side, more wood than in the 12yo, the bourbon influence is more apparent, unlike the alcohol, which is more masked by the cask influence.
    • Finish
Vanilla, some nuts, wood. Not too long, but long enough for this class of whisky.

I have bought and gone through 3 of these bottles in the last year or two and the current one I'm on is even better. Some expressions are a little hollow, but this one is exceptional. A truly refined whisky pulling all the richness from the Limousin oak A refined finish really complements a great full bodied taste. For the money one of the best whiskies on the mass produced market. 90/100
    • Nose
Candied fruits, citrus/orange mixed with a slight hint of floral notes. It's moderately complex with a initial hit from the bourbon casks - vanilla and honey notes, and then moves into the Limousin oak casks. The final result is a very rich aroma not typical of a younger 15 year old whisky.
    • Taste
Full bodied, creamy complexion, makes the mouth really water and crave another dram.
    • Finish
Long lasting creamy finish. Honey, vanilla, citrus the front of the pallate tingles with grapefruit and an exceptional sweetness.

Nothing outstanding, but very enjoyable whisky.
    • Nose
Very fruity. Fresh citrus fruits. Orange jam. Some oak already. All in all not that complex.
    • Taste
Smooth start. Some sweetness. Still kinda fruity, but more dominant oak now. Malty in the end. Some vanilla.
    • Finish
Decent finish. Lots of almonds. That is very nice.

Beautiful fresh fruity summer whisky for the warmer days, where the bitterness of the oak sets a nice counterpoint. 3 vol.% More, he would probably be quite good, because he seems a bit watered down in some moments. For a price from 30 euros I prefer this the 12er before.
    • Nose
sour fresh fruit such as grapefruit with a hint of pineapple, slightly sweetish vanilla cream, nutty notes of almond or rather macadamia, hides some mandarin and yellow apples, with good will also a hint of banana, slightly noticeable alcoholic touch
    • Taste
sweet and creamy mild mouthfeel, slightly exotic fruit cocktail, then the bitterness of the oak comes through, strong nut aroma in the direction of walnut
    • Finish
very dry with distinct bitterness of the oak, again much harsher nuts and the grapefruit comes through again, medium-length finish, leaving behind a slightly furry feeling on the tongue
