Whisky Reviews for Port Ellen 1982 SV

  1. Dram Dracula scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

A wonderful Port Ellen that I opened up for our whisky club. Its quality surprised many of us. The consensus top dram of the night and it beat some reputable whiskies from glenury, glenugie, and littlemill. A rich, thick, slightly sweet, sea salt note on the nose, as if heating up some marshmallows on a stick on a fishing boat, after some waves have splashed onto the deck. I can't be sure if there is a bit of refill sherry in this. The palate is equally impressive. Some hint of overripe pineapple and mangosteen, massively salty (seriously!!) with lots of complexity and oomph! Finish is long, and does not suck, my friend. Considering that I saw a person eating pizza and drinking this at the same time, boy, I wish I had kept this gem to myself! But alas whisky is for sharing and lots of folks appreciated it.

  2. WhiskyLovingPianist did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

N: Really hard to permeate this subtler nose after two dense Karuizawas - oh, its a tough life down on the ground. What there is, is a gentle flurry of floral and fruity hues, mainly oranges & lemons - quite Broraesque actually. Mild and exquisitely sweet equalled by a lovely peat ratio.
T: Abv strong and robust. Lots of salty seaweed - very Pulteney like with a huge mineral content. Bitter=sweet grapefruit also.
F: Grapefruit continues. Long, long, robust, confident continual flow with a massive salty, vegetal peaty finish
C: Broraesque on the nose, finishing like a Pulteney special - so not overly Port Ellen in character but fabulous stuff nonetheless.

    Scores a B+
