Whisky Reviews for Bally Delicious 1989 MoM

  1. Jean-Brice scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

A whisky without complexity, it must be recognized, but which presents no defect. Nice to drink. I imagine that this can represent a correct daily dram. Reminds me of some coastal malts from the North Highlands. Also made me think of some Irish malts.

    Dropped in blind
    • Nose
Pretty alcoholic at first; it fades gradually. Quite mineral, with lemony tips, slightly pastry (shortbread). Some spices in the background (vanilla, cinnamon). There is also a fruity heart, with white peach, blackcurrant bud, and candied fruit. At aeration, it is this fruity side that dominates.
    • Taste
Grasse, with controlled alcoholic power. Spices, fruit, liquorice, and some wood. Some "salty" tips too. I imagine that this whisky is relatively young (more or less ten years) and reduced.
    • Finish
Average. The aromas collapse a little faster. Too bad.

Really well done. It's precise, complex. I just wish the nose was a little more expressive. A very good 88 for this Littlemill? Nice potential for opening the bottle.

    • Nose
A little off but what stands out is rather engaging: very ripe fruit and some floral notes. Too bad we are the impression that they are stuck in the glass. At aeration, the "green" side (more vegetal than floral) dominates the whole with some fruity touches (peaches) and peppery, delicate.
    • Taste
The mouth is much more expressive than the nose. This one is creamy, fruity at wish, slightly tart (candies English) and very slightly vegetal. A little ginger too. In short, it's fresh and relatively complex and expressive. Good.
    • Finish
Pretty short. Or rather a little flat. No more fruit (always with peach in mind) in syrup.
