[July, 2018]  There are so many different quality levels of the Nàdurra as there are batches out there - and there are many…

The colour is yellow gold and the texture shows medium tears with fast legs.  The nose is fresh and a little immature (young) with malty and shy fruity aromas.  Okayish - not more, not less.  The initial mouthfeel is hot and somewhat coating (more than I expected from the texture) with a minor astringent moment from the tannins.  The taste is the taste is the taste... - finally I think it is almost completely wood-driven with spices (both vanilla and peppers).  The finish is rather short and unimpressive with an unpleasant bitter-drying end (heavy woods again).  Water smoothes the dram but does not really improve it (at least the barley sugars grow stronger).

This is rather a sub-standard Nàdurra release - of course it is drinkable but is it enjoyable too?  That depends on your taste buds only, if they prefer modern wood-driven spirits it most probably is (otherwise they will miss the joys of the distillate like mine)...

With Aberlour a'Bunadh one of the best 'standard' (non-single cask) whiskies on the market. Might be cask driven whisky but I like it a lot. Thanks Janou (also for your love...)!
    • Nose
Lots of sweet tropical fruit: canned pineapples, bananas and peach. Polished oak. Honey and some flowery notes.
    • Taste
Very waxy and creamy. Toasted oak. Vanilla custard. Lemon juice and oranges. Strawberries. Ginger.
    • Finish
Long and warming. Silky and sweet. Light pepper. Cinnamon. Very well balanced.

This is light and fruity, I remember the first batches of Nadurra where much fatter on the palate than this.
    This one fades too quickly

Quite a typical, faceless profile. The degree adds a little whisky to this. Not bad, but not interesting.
    • Nose
      81 81
Vigorous aroma, obvious bourbon extract, a lot of pears, juicy fruit, syrup, carpentry, freshly varnished wood, a little dusty, leather furniture, vanilla, some artificial, chemical sweetness in the aroma, strawberries. Standard, commercial profile, typical for the region.
    • Taste
      81 81
Juicy, candy, pepper, raisins, vanilla, sour, kiwi pulp, bourbon notes. Degree is well implemented.
    • Finish
      80 80
Lots of vanilla, burning sharpness, quite long, oak crispy dryness, like a fading hearth under the gusts of wind.

Yes, so yourself in fact. Sweet vanilla, prunes .. But simple sweets all spoil, and the degree is clearly felt

  9. granella2003 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Soft, rich and floral. tones of sweet hazelnut praline and reinforced by a dry, citrus oakiness
    • Taste
Smooth, sweet vanilla and rose, in balanse with a slight spiciness
    • Finish
Dry, oak finish and aftertaste of considerable length and complexity
