    First a sweet touch,
    earthy, wet earth over time.
He looks a bit pale, the barrel doesn't come up quite right.

    Different in taste.
    Expressive.
    He's got a bang.
    Spicy and slightly creamy.
    A certain bitterness.

    You can drink it.
But you don't have to ...

I had heard very different things about the Glen Scotia 18 in advance, so I wanted to make my own picture. I can convince this bottling only in a few parts. Positive is definitely the multi-faceted nose. The taste falls back a bit and the finish is almost uncomfortable.
Unfortunately the whisky lacks any balance and therefore it will stay with me for a sample.
    • Nose
      83 83
The nose is really multi-layered and interesting: first salt meets seaweed, then a slightly mossy, smelling of wet wood aroma is noticeable. But these nuances, too, gradually fade into the background and bring a bouquet of gooseberries, vanilla, marzipan and ready-made ground to the fore.
    • Taste
      71 71
The texture of the whisky is pleasantly oily and tastes notes of dark chocolate, cream caramel and cinnamon. Towards the end, a certain fruitiness of pears becomes noticeable again.
    • Finish
      66 66
The medium-long finish is the biggest weakness of Glen Scotia. Wood and tobacco notes combine to a bitter finish, which is flanked by some smoke and some yeast. Unfortunately, not a very tasty experience.

Floral and grassy in the nose. At the same time clearly sweet. Spicy on the tongue with strong oak. In the finish more and more spicy. Definitely not an easy dram.

Mineral nose, spicy, austere. Malty mouth, well spicy. Final rather vegetal, with a touch of vanilla, very persistent and evolving in a subtle way but I can not too much to transcribe. With water ... ah thank you! It's like adding an essential ingredient that was missing from a cake: sugar. There is now honey on the nose and the sweetness has given balance in the mouth. Enthusiasm 3/5

It's easy to drink. However, it is for the 18-year-old drink worth nearly 2 thousand little
    • Nose
A fairly soft, slightly acidic, luscious vanilla sweetness, but a rather pronounced spiciness
    • Taste
Woodiness, chocolate, latte macchiato, later citruses, quite pronounced spices
    • Finish
Lightly fruity, chocolate, woodiness, again enough quite spice

He is not very Fasslastig but still very interesting, beautiful corners and edges. A positive surprise between the whole high percentage of single casks, more complex than expected
    • Nose
grassy, cress, almonds, sweeter, perfume, thick crayons, green jelly, carpet, soft yellow apples, is even sweeter
    • Taste
Vanilla, not watery, not too strong, balanced and actually removes a bit smoky
    • Finish
mild, little oak but still medium in length, the sweetness is almost gone, instead herb, floral, peppermint pastilles

    Nose:-
Fresh floral and juicy fruits, airy cola with charming rooty peat.
Sniff deeper for unusual cologne fragrant, reminded me of an indian
barber shop. Water drawn out the savoury note, chinese bbq sauce and
sour plum. Complex but crowded. Lack structure. Palate:- Spicy wood and very crisp, doses of acid and bitter peel
lingers, mouth drying. Light body texture failed to carry the lush of
bold flavours. The liquid lacking lots of muscle on palate. Sadly, an
    unbalance dram.

Finish:- Short-medium length, touch of ginger warmness linger. Incomplete.

A multi-layered bottling, the qualities of which I at least have not noticed until after a few trial rounds. This also went to some other acquaintances like this: With each new try the reviews were better, partly the rating even on the 2nd or 3rd time considerably increased!

Even with me it was like that, at the first try I have eg. the discreet smoke in this bottling did not even notice.

The filling is also very exciting through various contrasts: In the nose a mildness and creaminess, which then on the tongue and on the palate, a clear counterpoint is replaced by a certain maritime salinity, a strong, but never spicy spice combined with a distinctive herbalism accompanied by gentle citrus aromas that alternate with milder fruits (apricot could come) and vanilla.

The more you try it, the more complexity you discover. My initial rating was between 82-84, at that time I already noted: "hard to evaluate". Meanwhile - and I'm surprised myself - I arrived at a very high 86 rating.

As I said, whoever gets only a small sample, will most likely not get a complete impression of this probably greatly underrated bottling.

Was a blind tasting and I was more than surprised. Great Malt - easy to drink with an appealing complexity at a very fair price. I really liked it and would probably never have come to the house with the bottle design.
    • Nose
Apricots, a lot of vanilla - creamy / creamy, butter toffee. In the background floats delicate, but noticeable, warm smoke. Apricot cake with whipped cream and a bit of cinnamon.
    • Taste
Other than expected: Spicy. Clear maritime / coastal / island character. Again syrup-sweet. Apricot. Vanilla again.
    • Finish
Medium-length interplay between the sweet spice.

a somewhat inappropriate alcoholic note always resonates; with a little water, the whisky loses a lot, especially in the taste, then acts on me more like a mild Obstler
    • Nose
a little bit peaty, but especially fruity, sherry, vanilla and sweet pastries
    • Taste
Lemon, molasses and fruity sweetness, with cinnamon and spices (especially pepper)
    • Finish
      medium to long, spicy, chocolate

The Glen Scotia distillery was mothballed between 1994 and 1999, so the whisky in a 2014 bottle of this "18 years old" should be at least 20 years of age.

This was my first whistle for this year's Whisky Festival and actually the first meeting with Glen Scotia. Although I have heard several criticisms of the design of the new Glen Scottish Bottles series,
I'm surprised, it's different, and I really like it. This eighteen matured in a barrel barrel. The smell was good, unfortunately I did not get the taste. It was not a bad sample at the start.
The responses to the 16y are very decent, so sometimes I will try again next time.
    • Nose
The aroma is warm, spicy, with overpriced fruit, malt and goes up to candy. (86 b)
    • Taste
Spicy, woody, warm, very dry, graceful. Gradually it withers even more, with a burning finish. (80 b)

Sweet and yet bitter, ripe citrus fruits with nutty toffee notes. In the rather short finish some sharp and peppery finish feeling, but then pleasantly sweet. Well OK

    N: malty, spices, and sourish
T: carton, glue, briny, oily, whole meal bread and pepper
F: bitter fruits - grape fruits, vanilla, salty, caramel and earthy
