    Eye / nose
Light gold. The aroma profile reminds me of the recently tasted 1984 Golder Still and Laddie 1984 for gourmets. Grainy notes and a bit of sweetness paired with a restrained fruitiness, mirabelle plums, apricot juice, and a slightly pleasant, vanilla-fruity sweetness. A bit of 'muff' in the best sense of the word marks the early distillation year. Noticeable a somewhat grassy note that contrasts with the light fruits. It's always exciting to see how the laddies of the 1980s differ in character from the fruit bombs of the 1970s.

    palate
The first thing you notice is the pleasant, downright flattering mouthfeel. The alcohol is only slightly delayed, but then never unpleasant. 46% ABV are and will remain for me at the break, the ideal drinking strength that fits like a glove. Gentle and powerful at the same time. The taste reflected the aromas from the nose. Apricot, cookie dough, vanilla, everything is available. In addition, the maltiness and a flavor that clearly sets the malt apart from others, and which I attribute to the oak. Very pleasant. Spicy but not overly woody.

    Finish / conclusion
Just because a malt has a great story doesn't mean it has to be 'hype'. A beautiful, pleasing malt with nothing wrong with its taste. Elegant, multi-layered if not super complex, plus a medium-long finish that leaves a very pleasant, typical laddie mild aftertaste. Missing grades? Nothing.

Bottle No. 321/440 was tasted together with a number of good whisky friends on April 14, 2018.
