Whisky Reviews for North Port 1974 It

- Pear peach apricot apple toffee, I found it pretty close to the sestante cs bottling maybe a tad less subtle but still very nice
- Color: Deep Gold
Not an irreplaceable piece of art (apart from the sherry).
Cooling mint, privet blossom, calvados, pine needles. Dry hay, lavender, ripe peaches. With water: soot, pollen, ripe apples, sour cherries, scorched orange peel. Walnuts, long gone yeast dough.
Spicy, he is not very pure, but my tongue is quickly numb. Something old bottle flavor, very floral, overripe pears, beeswax, candle soot. Peaches. With water: more sherry, from a real "selected sherry cask", furniture polish under yeast dough with plum jam, bitter almonds and orange peel.
Long, sooty floral, peaches, sugar beet syrup. Apple butter.
- I think this is not quite as good as either of these Sestante bottlings
- Tasted with 6 drops of water
This is really weird on the nose because while this may be from sherry casks it smells more like an aged bourbon to me 12+ years?????
The more I smell it the more like a bourbon it smells.
Smells of dry bacon, maple syrup and pecan/walnuts at first.
After a while some red apple skin comes out.
On the palate, it is very fizzy with some orange notes and massive sherbet fizz and once again something reminding of bourbon mixed with dark orange marmalade rind with a slight bitter tobacco note.
With a few more drops of water it is even more powerful with peat and brine coming out.
The finish is very long and a little unforgiving.
This is not an easy malt due to the power and high strength,, it takes a lot of water to tame it,
- Nice North Port, but also had better, I miss a little more (refill) Sherry influence, could almost be a nice, medieval Caol Ila in cask strength.
Pear, lemongrass, candied ginger, toffee, light honey, vanilla, fresh green apple, some apricot and quince, hint of salt, white tea, rather restrained overall, also with water, very delicate, some rosemary, some light tobacco, limestone
Here clearly sparkling on the go, light grapes, green apple, lemongrass, lots of ginger, candied and fresh, quince, grapefruit with peel, salt, then beautiful malt clear, tannins (some for 14y), some black and green tea, herbal honey , Pear, unripe banana, some anise, turmeric
Light malt, here comes the tobacco of the nose, oak, leather, anise, ginger, lemongrass, hint of salt, medium to long
