A very interesting Bruichladdich bottling and a very interesting finish! The cognac barrel has left the Laddie a variety of flavors and left deep marks. Different, but delicious. I like it!
    • Nose
A grassy and spicy note rises from the glass, a subtle pinch of salt spreads over the grass. Green apples rise and an intense fruit mixture explodes in the nose. Pineapple, peach, oranges, mango and lemons come off the fresh fruit note. The nose becomes creamier and butterier, oak flavors mingle with the fruit. Here and there are slightly sprightly notes from the creamy and fruity mixture, the orange aromas are becoming more intense. Again a light pinch of salt, followed by sugar-sweet honey again. An interplay of flavors whets the appetite for the first sip.
    • Taste
Herb and grasig pours the first sip on the tongue. Dry notes of wood and spicy sweetness mix, subtly sour notes become bitter. Powerful, the first sip exudes a headstrong but very pleasant aroma. A touch of pine needle and a pinch of sea air follow, some licorice, then spicy wood and subtle tart fruit flavors. Slowly, the taste is slightly sprittig and bitter.
    • Finish
Chubby warm the finish exudes a spicy and malty aroma at the beginning. Dried berries and apple slices emerge, tart wood aromas follow. Sweet and creamy butter flares up again and again, slightly sourish fruit notes follow the sweetness ... An extremely spicy aroma remains in memory for a long time.

    an elegant summer digestive malt

    • Nose
Touch of bright elegant cognac, delicate hint of apricot, pear sauce and fine spice, some ripe raisin
    • Taste
a smooth, smooth feeling on the tongue, as if the taste wanted to escape
you have to catch it, but then malt and on: spicy apple notes, pear note, light smoke, a salty sea breeze, again the finest cognac with wood and yellow fruit, some citrus fruit
    • Finish
elegant spice from the sea, small apricots from southern France

creamy almost creamy, cookies, here too there is a mix of sour fruits
medium to long, chocolate, some mocha

Bruichladdich Cuvee 640 is one of three whiskies from the ‘Cuvee‘ range. Although I generally enjoy this distilleries offerings, I was a wee bit disappointed given the price. It was matured in American oak and finished in cognac casks.
    • Nose
Powerful and opening into orchard fruits. Think warm apple sauce, cake, and a hint of field spices.
    • Taste
Apple, orange, dark chocolate, sweet wine, and oranges.
    • Finish
long and Intense w/ spice notes and a easy sweetness.

Pricklend, refreshing, fruity, lemonade, ginger, tea, distinct French oak (ripening 4 years in Eux-de-Vie Limousin oak barrels). A very exciting combination.

  6. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

After three years, finally tasted the last of the trio, very delicious part, and for'n limited 21er Cognac finish, he is still not outrageously overpriced with ~ 160 € even 6 years after its release. Although I would say the other two have liked me a little better, but after so much time purely from the Gedächnis this is not a very strong statement. ;-)
    • Nose
Hay, cereal ... no, not quite, more grass seed - fresh opened bag of grass seeds, what fresh, tingling (slightly salty?), In the background brandy, brown sugar, toffee ... then come through the fruit, sweet orange , rather than fresh, apricot, peach, mango, with cinnamon, the harmonizes well, grass seed, brandy and fruit compote harmoniously next to each other
    • Taste
short again, the fruit compote, spicy, more ginger than cinnamon, then milk chocolate, brandy, malt ... Chocolate is darker, coffee, oak, black pepper, a hint of herbal bitters / licorice
    • Finish
warm-spicy-woody, then cocoa and again the herb bitter liquorice thing

A disappointing Bruichladdich once again. Would have expected a lot more from that one. Instead i don´t know what to make out of this. Maybe it´s the cognac cask maturation that is just not working with whisky.
    • Nose
Cognac indeed, but not as elegant as u would think. Sour apples. Dried apricots. Somehow feisty.
    • Taste
Powerful start. Alcohol dominating. Starting sweet being followed by a kinda bitter and sourish touch. Gras. Salt. Some rubber.
    • Finish
Oaky and bitter in the aftertaste. Not much fruitiness left over. Leaving a kinda numb feeling on your tongue.

fruity, apples, some sea salt, oak, malty, a little bit grassy, vanilla, and all of that mingles together just perfectly. a very creamy, mild and still feisty whisky, made a lot of fun trinking it.
