Tasted exactly 40 years after its distillation on Christmas Eve 2020. A special moment.
I think I have to try it again, but yesterday I didn't find it quite as convincing as the 1981/2004 with less%. Still very good but small prints, a tad too dry in the first sip, a bit tannic. But nose and mouth remain opposites. But then it fades away again on the fruity side with raisins and pears in white chocolate

He needs his time in the glass.
At first very spicy, later the sweet aromas predominate. Cotton candy, fruits, berries with sugar. Then the oak seasoning, some cinnamon and nutmeg. Alcohol noticeable.

Strong start. Quite different from the nose. It kills the wort in the first sip. Nuttiness and oak. Wort becomes dry. Dry becomes bitter. The sides of the tongue react strongly. That's a bit of a good thing.
Much more pleasant in the second sip. The palate quickly gets used to the "barrel wall" of the European oak. Now dark chocolate, nuts and pleasant oak spice. The fruits appear behind it.

Initially, the wort continues to dominate. This carries the flavors long. Then the fruits will prevail again in the end. The malt surprisingly fades away not on the spice, but on the sweetness. Raisins and pears in white chocolate. Very long.

Port is not in the foreground. The whisky takes time, then the sour note is lost.

Alcoholic, dark fruit (black currant), dried fruit, malty spice.
    • Taste
      91 91
Nuttiness (walnut, with a slight bitterness), fruity plum and spice. Not overly sweet at first, then comes the sweetness.
    • Finish
      89 89
Long. Fruity plum, currant. Dried fruit (raisins), oak seasoning.
