Whisky Reviews for Isle of Jura 1992 MoS

7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 84.62 points

  1. Blo scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

A nice whisky, relatively complex but that is not exactly his age. The profile of the distillery is there and the whole is consistent, I like.
    • Nose
Pretty much closed at first. The aeration reveals the typical markers Jura (malt, cereals & yellow fruits) and more "bourbonneux" (sweet caramel, acidulous sugar). Alcohol is well integrated.
    • Taste
This malt needs time to reveal itself! Moderately expressive, more in finesse and not devoid of complexity. Yellow fruits, cereals and caramel, in line with the nose. A small tip of smoked peat at the end of the mouth. Surprising.
    • Finish
Average length, tart and a little astringent.

  2. The Whisky Cyclist scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

funny whisky and the association with pils at the end of the taste and in the finish
    • Nose
a little dirty, has some similarities with grain whisky nice, after adding water it becomes more fruity
    • Taste
maltiness and i got the mouth feeling of pilsner, very clean
    • Finish
mouth drying, short mouth feeling which i associate with German and Czech pilsners.

    From a bourbon hogshead
    • Nose
Sweet, some peat smoke, vanilla, caramel
    • Taste
Spicy (cinnamon, pepper), peat smoke, creamy, oily, fruity (apples, pears)
    • Finish
Medium long, sweet, spicy, some smoke

  5. MaltMartin scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Intriguing whisky, difficult to describe. Not very expessive, but complex though. I should have guessed this whisky was younger than 22 years.
    • Nose
Sharp nose. Malty and cardboardy. A little smoke.
    • Taste
Minerals; wet stones. Also nutmeg, stuffed peppers, cinnamon. Soft peat.
    • Finish
      Medium long. Lots of sweetness.

This whisky grows, if you give it time. And it grows on you. I find the finish to be the greatest asset of this beautiful, atypical Jura. It was a good call by Glenn to have this bottled.
    • Nose
The nose starts off rather closed and needs a bit of time to open up. Once that has happened, I get vanilla and a truckload of caramel, like in Werthers Originals. Behind that, I detected some citrus and coconut and white fruit. Very soft on the spice front. Inviting.
    • Taste
It is mouth coating and almost creamy. Immediately very sweet on white fruit, but also fiercely peppery with camphor. It has a nice salty edge and towards the end a clear hint of peat. I did take more than one swallow to really appreciate this whisky, I must admit.
    • Finish
The finish is medium to long, pretty sweet and finally shows that typical Jura-trait of jute bags and some dust. Pretty good.
