Whisky Reviews for Caol Ila 1990 Arc

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.95 points

  1. lachaineduwhisky did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Fruity and aromatic smoke, powerful. An intense nose, malty, warm. A little wax, cooked apples, pink grapefruit (?). Superb. The first sip is dominated by the ashes behind which is spicy oak. A pepper note in the finale, which leaves a feeling of fullness. Here, age counts. With a little water, I have like a queen-claude on my nose, with cake dough and vanilla sugar. The palate has found its balance between ash and oak now, accompanied by a sweet / bitter perfectly dosed. It's beautiful. Except the bottle label, one of the ugliest I've ever seen! In their place, I would have squarely put in Calibri size 11: "Super good old whisky." (Like what I'm still permeable to marketing and its beautiful bottles)

    Enthusiasm 5/5

  2. Sonett scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Charcoal smoke, vanilla, cedar Wood, wet leather, sea weed
    • Taste
Peat, vanilla chili pepper, a hint of sea salt
    • Finish
Finale is a bit dry, slightly spicy and medium long to long

  3. hartist scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

Nice bottle at a price still accessible.
    • Nose
Bold, develops on smoky, malty, vanilla, fruity and herbaceous notes.
    • Taste
It contains the components of the nose: ash peat, smoked fish, malty notes (caramel, honey, wax), salty and aniseed.
    • Finish
Long, powerful and slightly aniseed. The alcohol is there but in the end not disturbing at all because the addition of water is not really necessary.

  4. Mr.Fruitcake scored this whisky 82 points Member Senior

Nice, a good early evening peated dram
    • Nose
Peat, smoke, wood, old leather, some spices, hint of vanilla and some flowers and a tiny bit of sandalwood
    • Taste
Pepper and peat, some malt, salt and vanilla. A whiff of creme brule and caramel. Oil and a bit of wax.
    • Finish
reasonable long, warm. The peat is here till the end with a good hint of pepper and caramel and a creamy coating.
