Interesting! Not sure why it feels like a privilege to be tasting Welsh Whisky, but here we are. Not bad. Certainly could be worse...
    • Nose
Sweet, cereal, flowery. A LOT of flowers, rose water, and becoming soapy. Licorice and Necco wafers.
    • Taste
Medium body. Sweet first, then mineral, and a little bitter. The rose water is back.
    • Finish
Apple, quince paste, Raisin Bran cereal. Rose water again. Something musty. Raspberry and strawberry notes, with vanilla cream latterly. Presumably this is from the Madeira finish, but do we know anything about Welsh whisky? Nope!

Great combination of fruit and oak notes. Very independent, even if young.
    • Nose
Very fruity at the start, reminiscent of sweet chewing gum. I have peach, lychee and ripe apples. Behind it a fine spicy liquorice note. Later some cookies and cinnamon.
    • Taste
Spicy start with a lot of oak. At first a bit peppery and sharp on the tongue, later with a little time milder with a little coffee.
    • Finish
Medium-long, smooth finish with oak and a little nut. Slightly fruity sweetness. Somewhat sour, dry.

This is light at first for a single malt but then it gets creamy and there is some peat on show.
This is too manufactured for my tastes so it gets my stock MOTR score of 75 points.
The nose is far too light.

A change of emotions: the nose is great, the taste is disappointing, the finish is forgiving.
For me (unfortunately) the typical profile of a still somewhat immature young whisky from an active barrel.
    • Nose
Hui! Intense, very fruity nose. Apples and pears, beautiful (fruit) acidity. Some glue. With time in the glass, it gets sweeter and sweeter. Vanilla, marzipan. Then there is even some oak. Great nose!
    • Taste
Pleasantly oily in the mouth. Very special taste. The glue is back. Unfortunately also a bit alcoholic. Otherwise mild and pleasant.
    • Finish
Medium in length, becoming drier and slightly bitter. The fruity notes come back for a pleasant end.

    Smell : Haribo tropical fruits.
Taste : Haribo tropical fruits. totaly bizarr.
I think this is a love it or hate it whisky. Or maybe accept it or hate it...

Somewhat unbalanced. The vain notes sit on the young malt. Otherwise OK, but just with drawbacks.

TASTING NOTE LMDW Penderyn Aur Cymru single malt Welsh whisky is the standard bearer of the Penderyn house. Distilled in a unique alambic, it is first aged in bourbon casks before maturing in Madeira barrels that bring it a generous taste and a subtle complexity. Color: yellow gold with amber highlights. Nose: lively, precise. Marked by notes of praline and vanilla, it evolves on fresh fruits (pear, melon) and exotic (banana). Also herbaceous (cut hay) and vegetable (tobacco leaf). Palate: mineral, fruity. It is gourmet with notes of vanilla, cinnamon and salted butter caramel. Finish: creamy, it extends on toffee, mocha and chocolate. Pleasant presence of spices and ripe fruit (pear, peach).

A prominent pine on the nose. The taste of a pine smoke, pleasant burn with a long sweet finish.

That was unexpectedly cool! Elegant, unusual taste with a pleasant burn to save from cold, with a rich sherry finish. Kudos to the Master Distiller for such an elegant dram.

P.S. It's not made for lovers of heavy and saturated drinks. I find it on another part of the spectrum to what Highland Park does. While both distilleries do a great job, the idea behind their drinks is completely different.

    Interesting nose, disappointing palate. 66!
    • Nose
Interesting, vinous nose. Red wine. Sweet.
    • Taste
Bitter, metallic, immature. Somewhat sour, very subtly sweet.
    • Finish
      Short, bitter.

Tasty, idiosyncratic whisky, with the very special fruit note but you have to cope (I like it), if that is the case, 43 € are a fair price and the whisky is' a good recommendation for the exotic shelves.
    • Nose
there is this typical note (have already tasted some Penderyn Madeira) - fresh, fruity (slightly hard to define), slightly artificial, breeze acetone (but not unpleasant), but it fades, then the fruit is clear, apricot, ripe pear, a Touch mango, with vanilla cream in the background and a pinch of cinnamon / fresh sawdust ... later less fruit, but rather caramel / nut
    • Taste
herb-exotic-fruity, grapefruit, passion fruit, such a bit dark berry (blackberry / blackcurrant / elderberry?) Shimmers through, the fruit remains unusually long in the mouth present, to chocolate, latte, a little wood (comes better / fruity with very small sips)
    • Finish
medium to long, light, pleasant warming, spicy sharpness, coffee

  12. Donwaldorf scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

An atypical whisky ... I had better made Whisky / Madeira.
    • Nose
A nose on salted butter caramel very pronounced. There are some flowers. I even have some wet cardboard.
    • Taste
Light, some spices, honey, fruits and always this cardboard.
    • Finish
Short on caramel, chocolate and light oak.

Very enjoyable as an everyday dram
    • Nose
Quite strong on the nose. Toffee apples, vanilla, malty, wood spice, slightly creamy, apple spirit, youthful, tropical fruit, peach, metallic note. With water-pear spirit
    • Taste
Quite spicy, vanilla ice cream, woody, spirity, youthful, peaches

With water- apples, less spirity, banana liquer
    • Finish

  19. Akoo scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

A Welsh whisky that is close to the profile of Irish whiskys. Fruit, lightness, little complexity, but easily drinkable. A summer dram that will make you enjoy a pleasant tasting.
    • Nose
a rather atypical profile. It seems pretty sweet. Here we have a very fruity whisky: notes of banana flambéed with ... rum, roasted pineapple, dried apricots, peach, candied orange, all sprinkled with vanilla powder, cinnamon, pink berries, turmeric ... Spices are very present. With the opening, the fruity side hides the spicy aspect.
    • Taste
A light texture, but a nice aromatic power. Many fruits, coffee notes quite present. We feel some notes of alcohol. Spices take up a lot of space and the mouth is fairly monolithic.
    • Finish
short is not very complex, with notes of grilled fruit, caramel and spices.

Slightly like fruit salad, floral sweet, mildly packaged with 46% alcohol.

Remains slightly dry, milky and sweet chocolates pleasantly in memory. There is smoke in the nose and in the taste.

If you fancy a change from your usual, this has a lovely peachy flavour. Stood out at the Newcastle whisky festival this year amongst a lot of good but similar products.

Open minded people should give it a try.

N: Thankfully an unsulphured batch this time around, now offering a rich and lively varnished toffee apple & pear tart presentation with a youthful spirit and vibrant wood spice on show.
T: Spirit lead apple gin alcohol with a strong spicy and woody activity all around the palate
F: Vanilla and caramel flood through once the spices settle. Slightly fuzzy vibe with lots of toffee and a hint of coffee to finish.
C: Fresh and active casks help this spirit led dram maintain a successful marriage of sorts. Im guessing theres a large use of new or certainly active first fill casks to help speed up the maturation process and therefore production time, but i’d prefer a slower, deeper maturation for the marriage between cask and spirit to play itself out as I think this Welsh spirit can handle it. I look forward to the 10-18 year old's revealing themselves.

    Scores a C

The Madeira finish single malt Welsh whisky defines our "house style of
whiskies".  Distilled in our unique copper pot still, matured in bourbon
barrels, finished in rich Madeira wine casks and bottled at premium
strength, this single malt whisky is smooth, light in character and
    softly golden in colour.

Winner of the Best World Whisky, Gold Medal at the 2012 International Whisky Competition.
