The alcohol is poorly integrated, which is detrimental to this Lochside which nevertheless has qualities.

Unfortunately, water does not do him good. The solvent turns into a light rubber.
    • Nose
      85 85
The nose is definitely strong and focused on the solvent.
Lemon, quite chemical. Toffee, light sponge cake. Green wood.
A rather discreet flowery side on the rose.
      Some grain, varnish and ash.
Everything is unfortunately a little overwhelmed by alcohol.
    • Taste
      84 84
In the mouth it is again strong, and oily.
The floral takes center stage, still on the rose, accompanied by a good dose of schnapps and pear brandy.
      Light toffee, liquorice, cloves.
      A little fern, dried grass.
      Lemon zest.
    • Finish
      86 86
Fruity finish, on lemon, orange. Pepper, solvent, wood.
      Light smoke.

One unique botteling. Bourbon cask with a whiff of sulpher.
Not to everyones liking, but definitely interesting.
I found this one quite nice actually.

Heavy stuff, not too bad but far from other distillery expression.

Lochside was a mixed distillery (grain/malt). Somewhere at source of material, fermentation, distillation or maturation, this dram might have been contaminated with grain.
    • Nose
      81 81
Alcoholic and grainy. Waited in vain to open up. It stays strong and flat
    • Taste
      80 80
Quite heavy. Net grappa taste, with grain and malt touch.
    • Finish
      82 82
      Consistent but a bit poor

Unfortunately the second weakest Lochside I have ever had in my collection. Only the 1991 I found even weaker. Otherwise I find the Lochside whiskys outstanding. The 29er Sherry Cask is certainly very strong.
On new german: The strong on the bag is another model. nothing so enthesses these. That's just too bad for single cask nigg.
