Save your money, Macallan should be ashamed of themselves for bottling something so poor.
    • Nose
A potent nose for sure but it is a manufactured sweetness on caramel, coffee and milk chocolate. There is some peat in there but the toffee notes drown it out.
    • Taste
Bitter coffee mixed with something i can only define as chemically.

The bitterness invades the palate and tongue but that is only a first impression.

The alcohol is actually quite rough and the wood is shouting loudly.

The bitterness is telling, i will be honest i am sensitive to woody bitterness but thie is really noticeable for me.
    • Finish
Who cares, the length is unimportant when the palate is like this.

I remember when the fine oak range was released and purchased the 15 year and really liked it. I thought this might be similar, but this is really bad, especially when you take the price into account.

Either the stuff i have is flawed or everone else on here has drunk something different to me but i know my palate is ok as i just had a nice Avonside and Glen Elgin before this.

What a disgraceful price for such a sub standard whisky.

The nose is fine but from the first sip it is downhill fast.

In the smell more expressive than the 12er or 18er Fine Oak, perhaps because more sherry shares were vermält. Beautiful notes of peach can be found next to a lot of spice notes by the high wood influence. In the mouth only very reserved and mild, then creamy-vanilla and bittersweet. In the finish very woody and bittersweet.
Friends of the wood-heavy dry whisky get their money's worth, I'm not really warm with the Fine Oak series.

The Macallan's sherry wood program has been something that folks have been focused on, but they have been using other wood types for at least a few decades now. Launched in 2006, Macallan Fine Oak 17 is matured in a combination of three different wood types: European oak ex-Sherry, American oak ex-Sherry, and American oak ex-bourbon.

    Nose:-
Shy at first but easily warm up with burst of metallic. Nose heating,
dark fruits and petals. Lightly peat with slightest decay note at the
    background. Complex and rich.

Palate:- Creamy and sugary, velvet and amicable. Complex. tropical fruits, toffee and toasted oak.

Finish:- Throat heating with medium length, vanilla emerged with persistent restraint spiciness. Mature and elegant.

The smell immediately reminds me of an empty whisky glass, where you have to smell again and again, because the flavor is so great. I smell raisins, a little oak barrel. Oh, what a soft, soft start, despite at least 43% is so balanced that I'm already excited about it. I love that taste!

    • Nose
      fruity, wood, vanilla
    • Taste
      Bittersweet, creamy, elegant
    • Finish
      long delicious finish
