    Tasting Notes by Adelphi;

    1 of only 200 bottles from cask no. 3210
    From an American oak hogshead with good beading. Autumn gold, almost chesnut in colour. Cooked fruits (slightly waxy) in a jammy sponge cake – apricots and pears to the fore. The jammy note increases with strawberries and a tangy Dundee marmalade and a hint of sweet pipe tobacco in the background. A huge texture in the mouth, sweet and inviting, with dark chocolate and more strawberry jam. Water brings back the waxiness and the fruits become tinned – now pears and melons. A complex, and rare example of well-aged Mortlach from American oak.

    • Nose
      spikiness, c. 55%, quite floral
    • Taste
      bourbon notes
    • Finish
      guessing it is a refill bourbon hogshead from finish and 18 years

    Nose antique store, old cognac, dilution brings green oak, orange blossom, plum and a tiny bit of sulfur. Mouth on cereals and a fruity mandarin / apricot. Final on the strawberry and tight tannins. Evolutive and very good.

    With a drop of water it gets more buttery and a notch more delicate. The taste is  a near perfect combination of the tastes noted neat. A great malt and even greater with a little water. 
    • Nose
      The nose reveals oily malt, butter, figs, vanilla and something that reminds me of musty cellars.
    • Taste
      It is quite oily and tastes of spices, butter, hazelnuts, apples and kumquats.
    • Finish
      Long malty, spiced and with a bit of dry oak at the end.

    N: bitter fruits - grape fruits, banana, apricot, dark chocolate, cherry, apples, nuts, spices - mint and later some sulphur
    T: dusty, old wood, exotic fruits, some pepper, later syrup, wood smoke and orange
    F: vanilla, orange, cactus, bees wax, spices and later meaty with some smoke

    Quite well-done Mortlach with a nice nose and tidy palate.
    • Nose
      (Milk) chocolate with a touch of mint (After Eight), the Bourbon Barrel is quite good and pleasant. Herbere Toene, Walderde and Pannennadeln come through very well. At the back also some citrus flavor.
    • Taste
      Strong-biting with a thick volume and creamy, slightly heberer chocolate than in the nose. Some fruit mixes underneath and leaves an impression of Jaffa biscuits.
    • Finish
      Good in length and powerful with a combination of rich fruit and chocolate.

    • Nose
      waxy, multi fruit, faint beeswax, stewed fruits, rhubarb. (90)
    • Taste
      oily, cinnamon, beeswax, stewed fruits, pepper. (89)
    • Finish
      honey waflles, more wax & fruit, faint smoke. (90)

    • Nose
      musty, old wood, apples (quite a few of them started to ferment...), wet tobacco, waxy, coal, tree sap-y, lemon peel, . (91)
      W water:  very similar to the nose without water, a few more apples, a tad less waxy & a bit more wood, wet oak at that. (90)
    • Taste
      burnt tree sap, malty, faint pumpernickel, oat cakes, faint oranges, a bit edgy/aggressive alc going into the finish. (87)
      W water: first of quite smokey, malty, meaty, (88)
    • Finish
      malt notes again, faint smoke, an intersting sour-dry-ness, unripe apples & lemons, also some lemon & orange peel (maybe some of it candied ?), faint beeswax. (88)
      W water: more dry than sour now, timid exotic fruits swaying in and out, faint coal smoke,  nice length (91)
      Later w water: turning quite sweet & creamy now, (90)

    A beautiful colored spirit that sparks in the light and that is very well influenced by the barrel. The nose is relatively modest, but the palate and finish are deliciously fruity and creamy. Complexity:
    • Nose
      Complex, with a lot of influence of the wood. Rich barley, old books, dried apricots and dates, but also some vanilla flavored cream.
    • Taste
      Start: rich and sweet, much fruitier than expected. Raspberry jam, peach, honeyed cereals, cream. End: somewhat drying.
    • Finish
      Long and sweet, with returning elements of the fruit, barley and cream.
