  1. AntTuur scored this whisky 81 points Expert Junior

Considering it's age this feels younger. It is dry, it is oaky, but there is something that just doesn't make it feel like a 33 y.o.
    • Nose
Very fresh and grassy, fruity, green apples, lime, very citrusy, some coconut, dry. Drop of water brings out more mature notes. Toffee with dry oakiness.
    • Taste
Peppery and slightly fiery without water, oak and some dry fruitiness. Needs water and plenty of time to open up. With time and water the age shows much more.
    • Finish
Leathery notes arrive. Tobacco leaves, something earthy. Dry wood and minerality.

    • Nose
Glue and peanut skin, as well coconut shavings and barley husks, followed by apple cider and fermented apples, as well as vanilla custard. Finally a touch of cherry syrup.
    • Taste
Quite a harsh arrival, with plenty of chili pepper, but it also has a waxy quality. I find apples, almonds and cloves, as well as tinned pineapple.
    • Finish
      Lingering spices and orchard fruits.

    Whiskynotes.be:

Glen Albyn 33 yo 1974 (58,9%, Clydesdale 2008, cask #0016/1601, 248 btl.)Nose: starts on freshly cut grass and grains. After a while, it develops fruity notes of unripe mango, green apple, tangerine and lime. Faint strawberries. Quite “green”. A bit of leather and clean oak. After a while, an unexpected whiff of sea air can be detected. Quite smooth and harmonious. Mouth: good attack, again high on citrus with added spices (cinnamon, a bit of pepper). Big hints of unripe stone fruits and apples. Gets drier towards the end with some pine oak and resinous notes. Finish: long, lots of lemon with dry oak and a slightly bitter edge.An unusual but very interesting dram that needs time. Nevertheless it convinced me completely. Great cask selection by The Clydesdale. Around € 150 if you’re lucky enough to find one.Score: 90/100

Glen Albyn 33 yo 1974/2008 (58.9%, The Clydesdale Company, cask #0016/1601, 248 bottles)  Colour: pale gold. Nose: a little fruitier and more expressive than the 1981 but still very grassy. White cherries, kirsch, butter, green apples and hints of porridge. And the same notes of wet rocks as in the 1981. With water: ah, this works beautifully. Morels, old leather, moss, tobacco, eucalyptus and hints of patchouli. An unusual dram. Mouth (neat): very close to the 1981 but with an added spiciness (green pepper). Very lemony in fact, rather than orangey. A little fuller than the 1981. With water: excellent! Lemon balm sweets, lemon marmalade, speculoos, apple spirit (white calvados) and cough drops. Finish: rather long, all on squeezed lemon (skin included). Comments: the best Glen Albyn I ever had ;-).SGP:462 - 86 points.
