Whisky Reviews for Glenrothes 1989 SV
7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.41 points
- Wow, what a difference to the cask 24382 - same vintage etc. but totally different. I don't even mind the leathery notes as they are clean and really not related to any sulphur. Not bad
Fresh, intense, sherry wood, whiffs of leather
Punchy, new leather couch, subtle sweetness, woody notes, horse barn
Long and burning, water helps
- This expression of Glenrothes by Signatory Vintage seems a bit more complex and soothing on the palate than the Glenrothes 1989 23 Year (cask #24382). The aromas and flavours are quite bold and bring a good depth to the game. With water it is less enjoyable for me as it accentuates the tannins and other bitter flavours and spoils the powerful balance this whisky has.
All in all a powerful Glenrothes with good depth of flavour
A powerful, fresh, sweet and rich whisky with aromas of licorice all-sorts, sherry, subtle sulphur, apple, pear, berries (blueberries, elderberries, bramble), Black Forest gâteau, dried fruits (figs, plums, raisins, apricots), subtle glue tone, cinnamon, allspice, ginger, sweet cloves, tangerines, orange, tea, brown sugar, subtle tobacco, new leather, earthy tones, vanilla, dark honey, almond paste, milk chocolate, fudge and spicy oak.
A powerful, sweet, rich and spicy whisky with aromas of bitter dry sherry, tannins, sulphur, hint of rubber, dried fruits, (dates, figs, plums, raisins, apricots), earthy tones, dark honey, vanilla, milk chocolate, walnuts, baking spices (cinnamon, clove, ginger, nutmeg), mace, leather, bitter orange marmalade, cherries, hint of butter, subtle coffee, licorice root, hint of coconut and spicy oak.
A long, bitter and dry finish with aromas of tannins, grapefruit, grape seeds, walnut, chocolate, mocha, black tea, subtle toffee and dry oak.
- full bodied glenrothes. everything that makes sherry great is in this dram.
- blind tasting
grains, sherry (Glendronach style), a bit sharp, earthy, fudge, chocolate and nuts
nice sherry, bitter fruits, dried fruits and oat meal cookies
some wood smoke, drying, orange, fudge and oaky
- Strangely, this one seems smoother without water than with.
Red berries, blueberry, cherry, fig, caramel, marzipan, orange, oak, gunpowder and honey.
Mocha, red berries, caramel, orange, raisin, dark chocolate, raspberry and liquorice. Perhaps a little sulphur, but not too much.
Toffee, mocha, orange, almond, oak and pepper.
