Whisky Reviews for Dufftown 1997 vW
4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.33 points
- The vanilla of the nose is great. The taste does not convince me the Dufftown. The finish is personally one-dimensional to me.
The extremely vanilla nose whets the appetite for more. Suddenly, the nose becomes sprittig, but exudes a very pleasant fruity note. Sweetness plays with the fruitiness of the nose.
Bitter and spicy woody aromas turn into a slightly sweet fruit. Again some vanilla. Bitter and slightly smoky tobacco spreads throughout the mouth. Lemons and grapefruit follow the tobacco.
Again these bitter and spicy wood flavors paired with tobacco. The finish is pretty one-dimensional and long.
Vanille, apples, pear, oaky tones, and in the end little bit creamy nuts and ahornsyrup. Complex.
Fruity tones, citrus, creamy again, some hint of tobacco, and choco tones.
Middlelong, dry with coffee and tobacco tones. Fruity again.
- Dufftown 1997 - 2012, 14 years, 46% alc. Cask 19486 van Wees
Bottler: van Wees
Expansion: "hogshead" No 19486
Region: Speyside, Scotland
Special feature: Limited to 377 bottles
Nose: Immediately makes a deep and complex impression. First, neat vanilla, then ripe apples and sweet pears, light grapes and a little peach. Then dry and spicy wood flavors that make the whisky seem older. Behind it come almonds, maple syrup and liquorice.
Palate: First spicy with a cinnamon note, followed by the fruits of the nose. In addition there are creamy citrus fruits and some tobacco. The conclusion is a taste of milk chocolate.
Finish: Medium long, the oak lingers longer. Dry oak aroma, espresso and tobacco, as well as ripe fruits.
Conclusion: The fruits drive a clear line, a harmonious yet complex single malt .
85/100 points (tasted 2015, approx. 40 €)
