This is sherry and oak down very well. Anyone who hates on Dalmore has not tried it before, as this can go toe to toe with Glendronach and Macallan in my humble opinion.
    • Nose
      90 90
Stewed red fruits, strawberry, cranberry, leather, milk chocolate
    • Taste
      91 91
Velvety, a perfect amount of oak and spice now join the sherried fruits.
    • Finish
      89 89
The spice lingers with a surprising amount of heat for this abv. Strawberries and cream

A little more watery than I would like for such an interesting profile. The aroma lacks some sherry notes of their taste.

    22 22 21 20
    • Nose
Bright, cigar-like, plenty of malt, thinner, spices, raisins, bright fruit sweetness, some almost fresh grass.
      Saturation: 8.5 out of 10
    • Taste
Sweet dried fruits, prunes in tobacco, hazel, a little more watery than we would like for such an interesting profile.
On the second sip, astringent notes of quince, woody bitterness of tannins.
      Sweetness: 6 out of 10
      Saturation: 7 out of 10
    • Finish
Prunes in tobacco, dryness, sherry notes of raisins and dried apricots, tannins are almost inaudible, but felt, hazel.
In about five minutes the woodiness wakes up.

After tasting the Glengoyne 30 I have to revise this excellent whisky a bit in terms of rating.
    • Nose
      93 93
Nice firm, dark chocolate, leather, some fruit...

semi-long finish, could be a little longer, in terms of taste in line with the taste notes.

In the nose leather, wood and in the background some blood orange. In the mouth surprisingly sweet and a bit spicy, not as oily as the 15-year-old and very barrel-heavy. A lot of oak and dark sherry notes with a bit of bitterness on the finish. In comparison, I prefer the 15.

    Grade: 2

    RATING: 87pts – |87 – 89 (B+) → Great| — Always nice to have a bottle of this.

The Dalmore 18, 43%. Very dark orange with a red hue. Aroma is orange red and purple Starburst sweets, slight plastic and sherry, beautiful mixed berries, damp wood, dates. I like it! Taste is super smooth and easy, rounded and juicy. Easy and even a touch lacking in oomf perhaps. The first impression in the mouth lacks punch. Saltiness builds alongside some wood and fruit-spice. It's creamy and easy, with good and balanced flavours. I like Dalmore whiskies a lot and this is no exception although they can lack punch and complexity. You cannot fault the balance and drinkability though, which are first rate. If this were bottled at 48% I reckon it would be pretty special. (3.7/88)

  18. KeesD scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

I would give almost 100 points, I have not tasted a better one so far. But I keep the remaining 3 points in case there is still a tastier one ...

  19. Whisky Hamster scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Who would've thunk? A decent official Dalmore sub 100 EUR (at the time of purchase!). XD At least they upped it to 43% abv. To be honest, this one gains over time with air exposure. First, it was more like 84 p. but it gets better and develops a real nice Highland style with herbal notes, spices, etc. But it's pretty well hidden away at first sip. Take your time and don't give your bottle away too quickly. This one's actually kinda fun even for experienced maltsters.

Aroma: vanilla, dark chocolate, oranges and cinnamon.
Taste: Chocolate candied citrus fruits combined with coffee, nutmeg and cloves.
Finish: Spicy with oak and citrus notes.

  21. Koning scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

I was surprised by 18 years old. It's fresher and more complex than the 15 (which is darker but a bit thin). It showcases a variety of oranges, which combine well with the more nutty and herbal notes.
    • Nose
      86 86
Fresher than expected: citrus fruits and apple, some vanilla and walnuts. Marzipan and dark chocolate and some nutmeg. No sherry-bomb!
    • Taste
      88 88
Full on juicy oranges, reminiscent of Cointreau (triple sec). Some nectarines and figs add to the fruitiness before a dried herbs and more nutty notes appear. Some marzipan again. Very nice!
    • Finish
      86 86
Rather full with tangerines and oranges. Some dried herbs again : thyme with some heather honey. It's slightly oily and waxy and a trace of smoke is noticible.

    - a very ripe, delicious sherry malt
    - has a very light, soft mouthfeel (almost too thin for some people => ideal for beginners)
    - for all super drinkable, very elegant, typical gentleman whisky
    - a little more refined and better (more elegant) than the 15, but not twice as expensive

    odor

very mild, fruity, subtle, sweet, berries, sweet fruits / sherry

    taste

extremely soft approach, very elegant, filigree, sweet and fruity, sweetish sherry taste, subtle oak in the background, somewhat bitter at the end

    Finish

    very soft, medium-long fruity finish;
    medium-long woody-fruity, slightly bitter finish

  29. Kumachan scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

The nose reveals nice vinous notes, old wood, a cigar box where tobacco leaves have remained, then, the fruits are presented gently with prune, raisins and red fruits.
A fairly short time will give way to spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla.

On the palate, the texture is tender, the winey notes of the nose are present, olorosso and plum.
The nut dominates in the company of chocolate and mocha.
Aeration opens the doors to the freshness which therefore accompanies this depth with a burst of lemon, a sign that the American oak has not been swallowed by the Sherry cask.

The finish stretches out with a sweet, spicy, vanilla sensation.

A big fat disappointment (especially if you factor in the price). Give me the 12 or the 15 over this any day.
Cardboardy, thin, weak, and woody. Its only saving grace is the finish, when the lovely Dalmore spirit character comes through with a late burst of juicy, sticky-sweet oranges. But alas: too little, too late...

For 18 years it is rather weak, especially in the body, although the aroma is very good and promised much more than it turned out in the end. A good option for a feast, but certainly not for thoughtful testing.

    • Taste
wine notes, wood, as it is very dull after the aroma

A strange scent surrounds my olfactory bulb..red fruits, yes, but somehow fermented sour. A touch of cowshed. After a while comes Waldhonig, herb meadow. Everything looks perfumed. In the mouth then extremely mild, almost watery, light sweetness, a hint of multi-fruit jam puts on the tongue. Departure oily-sweet, now the alcohol burns quite easily, rather short pleasure. At the very end a slight bitterness.

At first it is too bitter for me, becomes more balanced with the second and third sip and milder in the bitterness - the aromas become clearer. Raisin sweetness, syrupy, woody, chocolate bitter and for the 18 years very voluminous (ripe / old) - I miss a little acid for a more balanced taste. I do not need more than the 4cl sample. Nevertheless, a significant increase to 15er or 12er and by far the best from the series.

very decent whisky, with which you can spend quite a while. I miss something for the top whisky. He is a bit too flowery for me personally, more settlement would be nice.
    • Nose
Lemon peel, or even lemongrass at the very beginning, goes quickly and comes back very ethereal later. Dates, a little chocolate and vanilla, the much-described cinnamon I can not find. For something indefinable, the citrus date? Already pretty complex the whole thing.
    • Taste
clear coffee, slightly sour, little sweet chocolate, a bit nutty, something delicious, which I can not grasp, warm and strong, in comparison to the aroma rather one-dimensional, to the finish again multi-layered.
    • Finish
the coffee goes quite fast and leaves something floral, (jasmine?) and lemongrass with a clear Nussigkeit. The finish is not too long.

This was really good. Much better than the 12, 15 and King Alexander in my opinion. Higher ABV would probably have helped it further but this is without any doubt a really good whisky.
