a grain of my date of birth!
    what is this year worth?
    • Nose
      strong woody, with soaked chips
      old varnish on dresser
candied fruits on raisins, cooked peaches, dried apricots
caramel, vanilla from Madagascar, a little coffee, malt also with toasted almonds
    • Taste
      a rum sensation:
it's very sweet, still vanilla, the impregnated wood comes back at a gallop, the sensation of raisin Corinth, orange peel, a little dry, a little moldy too, a little about the sensations from afar an abunnad'h for fruits
      woody sensation in strong feedback
      sweet spices
    • Finish
on wood, on dried fruits and macerated
      sweetness of the aromas
persistence of the scents, the varnish remains present

Nose: To start clear grainy notes, but quickly disappear. Rumrosines, wood chips, some coconut / bounty, toffee, vanilla, subtle coffee notes and cane sugar sweetness Taste: wow, great sweetness of cane sugar, again coffee, rum, and raisins, no grainy notes at all Finish: long, here comes the grain again to wear, but a great light pepper spice Conclusion: He does not have to hide behind old Malts at all. Great part, who would like to drink an old grain, should grab this one! 91 points

Probably the best grain whisky I ever tasted. Superb stuff.
    • Nose
Rich. Dried fruits (apricots and figs). Lots of vanilla. Toffee. Sweet oak. Floral notes as well.
    • Taste
Creamy. Vanilla with raisins, oranges and honey. Beautiful oakiness. Tannins. Hints of gentian and herb liquors. Cloves and cinnamon.
    • Finish
Long and lingering sweetness. Some wood. This whisky is so complex.

A piece of history in the glass, since the distillery was only founded in 1963 and bottlings from 1963 are not known.

[December, 2012]  I found this dram in an advents calendar sampled by MaRa.

my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  I took no detailed notes.

A really nice Grain nose, followed by a surprisingly young palate. A scotch that plays in a damn good league of the Ue40 Grains. However, it is not quite enough for the top position of all older grains.
    • Nose
Even for a grain, the amount of malt and nuttiness is remarkable. Gentle, dry woody notes, a touch of cherry and after a while not much bourbon vanilla.
    • Taste
Although obviously a grain, but I would have him on the palate is not estimated according to its true age accordingly. Here he wanders more in the Rumrichtung. More sweet than in the nose, slightly oily. Not quite as supple as some other grains of this age, but with still a lot of power.
    • Finish
Medium long and ending with heavy sweetness.
