    Blind tasting.
Estery pears and green apples, a hint of peach. Vanilla and grassy citrus.
    A hint of smoke.

Sweet smoke, estery fruity sweetness from the fermentation and destillation.
    Some saltiness.

Honey sweet, turnes a bit almond bitter.

    • Finish
Medium, with honey sweetness and bitter almonds.

Not bad, pretty drinkable but I would not necessarily recognize this as HP

Tasting Notes by Johan ('Uncut'); Highland Park 1986/2012, 54.1%, Malts of Scotland 'Amazing Casks', Bourbon Hogshead # MoS12053, 245 bottles
Very fresh, aromatic nose. A lot of 'outside air'. A walk through the heather, and even more through the meadow, with its tall grass and flowers. Buttercups, dandelions. Morning dew. Clay. Chalk. Wet stones (we now walk along a mountain stream). Aspirin. Honey? Mja, but rather vanilla. And fruit do you say? You can count on yes. Red, juicy apples (Jazz), peaches, lots of gooseberries and a bit of lychee juice. Smoke? That is also there, but far in the background. Beeswax, that certainly does. Hay too. And pine needles, along with a little bit of resin. Really a lot of 'outside' associations. Clean, and especially complex profile. Fresh, sweet, floral and fruity notes are beautifully interwoven. But give him time, he grows, evolves beautifully. Actually much more Clynelish than Highland Park. The taste does not go down in terms of cleanliness and complexity. First the floral character (hay, grass, flowers), followed by the sweet (honey, vanilla, nougat), than by the minerals, the fruit (peaches, pears, pineapple and grapefruit) and the beeswax. Underlying herbs (cinnamon, liquorice and pepper) but almost no oak. A bit of salt. Stinging mouthfeel. Long, tingling aftertaste, sweet, salty and spicy. The nose is pure Clynelish, the taste is slightly more Highland Park. Very complex, and indeed also special whisky .   91/100

The change is dramtic and thankfully much better, the soapiness goes and it is more floral. I have had this over the last few nights and neat it is not very good and I could not get past the soapy notes.
I cannot remeber the last time I had a cask strength whisky that changed so much with water and for the better, it was like a different whisky.
This series is called Amazing Casks but this is far from amazing in truth and without the change with water it would have been scored around 75 points by me but, as it was so much improved with water it certainly gets over 80 but, it is nothing when compared to the older 25 year olds 48.1%, 50.7% OB etc
    • Nose
Shoe polish, wood varnish, slight grapefruit, does not smell like Highland Park certainly not the older bottlings.
    • Taste
Bitter wood and soapiness, biscuity, cardboardy and slight blackcurrent.
    • Finish
quite long but the soapiness remains.

Complex and interesting HP with a rough spicy edge. May be a tad too bitter to my taste. Opened on new years eve 2013 with my buddy Emiel.
    • Nose
Lots of bourbon cask characteristics of vanilla and honey. Followed by wet stones and chalky notes. Cut grass as well. Some gooseberries. Freesias. Smoke at the background.
    • Taste
Now more on punchy citrus fruit. Lemon and lime in a rough sense. Grapefruit bitterness and pine. It's all quite waxy with deep (cedar) woody notes and peaty influences.
    • Finish
Medium long. Hot spices of black pepper. Ginger. Liquorice. Spearmint at the end.

This is the kind of whisky that makes me very, very happy. I hope, with
the holidays coming up, that my family and friends read this carefully and get
the hint. I would not mind finding this under the Christmas tree.
    • Nose
On the nose I get wonderful sweet fruit notes, almost tropical. Sherry
cask, maybe? Turkish delight, apricots, mango, pomegranate. A touch of smoke
that remains discreet. Slightly mineral, too, like wet stones. Some earth and
wet grasses and the picture is perfect. Wonderful!
    • Taste
It is silky soft on the palate, though spicy. And again wonderfully
sweet. Honey, beeswax, all kinds of fruit, both yellow and white. Some
eucalyptus as well. Perfectly quaffable without water.
    • Finish
The finish is long, warm and sweet with a smoky finale.
