In the fragrance, a mix of fruitiness and sweetness. I do not like the fruitiness anymore in fact, the sweet is still absolute, but is combined with a powerful pepper.
The aftertaste then tends to be somewhat bitter and thus remains somewhat behind the smell and taste.

Whisky with character, mix of sweetness and sharpness / pepperiness. Finish is slightly behind the rest.
    • Nose
Spicy, salty, floundering rubber. Apple, caramel, vanilla, oak
    • Taste
Peppery and sweet: vanilla, caramel / toffees, oak.
    • Finish
Medium, slightly peppery, toffee / caramel, in the end it becomes somewhat bitter

    Auchroisk 16y 1996/2012, 53.5%, Asta Morris, cask AM014, 307 bottles
Soft, elegant nose, a completely different profile than the previous Asta Morris . Not so fierce, not so powerful, not so expressive. Well nice, not that. Grassy and fruity. Especially grassy. The freshly cut variant. Light mineral. Clean. Sweetened citrus fruit looms. Cane sugar. Cocos now too. Then buttercups and heather, and acacia honey. And quite a bit of oak. That oak is accompanied by anise and eucalyptus. Fresh profile. Round and creamy mouthfeel. Elegant, again. He goes from sweet to dry and back. Honey, vanilla, grass (here the dried variety), fruit (yellow apples and ditto plums), soft oak and herbs (cinnamon, liquorice). Beautiful bitterness. With water, I get notes of apple juice. With apple juice, by the way, too (ha). That water pushes the dry almost completely to the background (without being a real 'swimmer', a few drops are enough). But that varying from sweet to dry does not bother me at all, for me that little bit of water does not have to be, for others maybe. Medium, fresh aftertaste, sweet and floral, vanilla, honey and hay. Handsome balance between dry and sweet. Again I find a typical Asta Morris. Price / quality difficult to beat. 88/100 http://onversneden.com/2012/10/30/auchroisk-16y-1996-asta-morris/

Nose: Sweetness of oak, bourbon, vanilla, toffee. Some fruitiness which I cannot name. It's a pretty clear outspoken bourbon wood nose. With water some freshness comes up, like a menthol-sweet.

Initail taste: some sour note, sweetness of plums and oak. hint of citrus.

Body: quite full and a little oily.

Finish: medium Caramel and woodsplinters. There is an bitterness in the finish which makes it quite a duffer

Price: quite cheap for a cask strenght not often seen whisky.

    Presentation: this was a sample

This was my first Auchroisk, and I only can say: nice to have met!
    • Nose
The nose starts with a sweet freshness, later on there are coconut and floral tones and oakwood accents.
    • Taste
The first thing I noticed in the mouth is the smooth, creamy feel; great! Then I tasted sweet fruits with grassy and spicy tones, with this tones accentuating one after the other and back.
    • Finish
The finish was quite long, quite sweet (e.g. vanilla) and it kept the smooth feeling until the end.

    Bert did it again in
bottling something special. Thanks to Jos for the sample.
    • Nose
      The nose is malty
with wilde flowers, freshly cut grass, honey and loads of wood. Sugared lemon
peel. Touch of mint. Heather. Coconut. Licquorice, aniseed and honey. Quite
creamy, almost fatty. But malt and wood are the main players.
    • Taste
      It is feisty and
creamy and rather drying on the palate. Somewhat more fruity than on the nose
and nicely seasoned. A grapefruit or green tea bitterness emerges. A hefty
helping of pepper and liquorice. It is again rather fatty.
    • Finish
      The long finish is
      sweet (vanilla) and drying (oak).

Very nice and really opens up a nice fruity nose when a few drops of water are added, another nice find by Bert
