What to say These bottlings are rare and in demand, and rightly so. For me it is always a special quality feature when the nose is already very good and the whisky in the mouth is just another shovel.
Had blindly tasted this dram, never would have thought of Longmorn, especially because of the passion fruit / passion fruit.
    • Nose
      92 92
At the very beginning I have a slight peat in my nose, which later evaporates. Subtle fruit notes, rather reserved. He goes more in the "dirty", earthy direction, herbs like lovage, a little umami. The smell of a freshly opened sugar candy bowl. Sourdough bread, freshly baked and the sweetness of caramel.
No extreme nose, rather a bit shy ... but my experience tells me that these bottlings deliver even more in the mouth ...
    • Taste
      93 93
      Hallelujah !!

Start! Power! Everything that was previously hidden behind a curtain is now fully there.
Together with MARACUJA. Seldom had this special fruit on the palate. Paired with a herbal note, rather dried.
    • Finish
      92 92
In the finish, the passion fruit comes again, very long, very intense, the oak comes without any bitterness, green walnut and is dry at the end.

Longmorn 1969 - 2008, 38 years, 54.6% alc. Bottler: Gordon & MacPhail. Expansion: Refill Sherry Hogshead No. 3724

Nose: Dry fruit aromas meet old leather and antique wood, the fruits quickly become fresher and also quite sweet, apricots that were initially dried become fresh sugar apricots, then there are peach and passion fruit. Orange marmalade with cloves and cedar wood with a hint of tobacco linger in the background.

Palate: Orange candy, orange syrup, orange flavored fever juice (for kids), sweet and a bit over the top. There are also pineapple and passion fruit, and I can also taste some lychee. Add a little milk chocolate, oak wood and leather, and the cloves are very delicate again.

Finish: Very long and intense, the aromas come across very concentrated again, oak wood and spices are now expressed here for an infinitely long time.

Conclusion: Grandiose Longmorn of the old school. 94/100 points (2023)

[July, 2022] Last night we did another of these 3M-tastings (Mega-Monster-Marathon) in memoriam of good old Roland (R.I.P.) who introduced me into the wonderful world of single malt whisky: Six people, six hours and sixty drams (small measures only, because otherwise we would have ended up at the hospital).

In such a setting it is neither possible nor does it make any sense to write detailed notes hence take my scores with a grain of salt. This was the menu after a "warm-up" with four private cask samples (not rated):

No more drams this evening! And please remember: Whisky was rather made for drinking than for herding...

Would I like to beam back to Whisky Fair 2008 and buy this bottle. Yes, I do. A fantastically matured specimen from this rather underrated distillery.

    Tasted at a friends 50th b-day tasting.
