A good whisky!! This Talisker Distillers Edition (bottled 2012) has matured 1 year longer than the current Distillers Editions (bottled > 2015), which is also reflected in the taste. This whisky is the first whisky with new blue packaging.
    • Nose
      89 89
scent of sherry, peat smoke, peppery-spicy with a raisin-like sweetness.
    • Taste
      91 91
complex and intense, smoky, slightly peppery (Chili Catch) with notes of heather, oak and ripe fruit. Sweet and oily.
    • Finish
      90 90
balanced, sweet and dry with cocoa, vanilla and smoke

  2. SwiftyMcVeigh scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

An upgrade over the standard 10 yo, with sherry-sweet notes. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether this is worth 20 to 25 euros more.
    • Nose
      89 89
Maritime, sea spray. Sherry: Dark fruits (plums, berries, cherries). Also sweetie. raisins and toffee. seaweed and dark chocolate. Subtle campfire smoke. Old leather armchair and some citrus. Very nicely rounded.
    • Taste
      86 86
Oily. Licorice with maritime and mineral notes of salt in the interplay. Light campfire smoke and sherry. Dark berries, leather. dark chocolate. pepper and chili. Overall a bit too woody.
    • Finish
      87 87
Dark chocolate, oak, peat smoke and the pepper and chili catch. Medium to long.

  3. Archer scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

To be honest, I expected more. A well-made malt, but unfortunately the kick, that special something, does not materialize.
    • Nose
      88 88
Maritime nose, salty sea spray, some algae, pepper, dark chocolate. Very intense, very clear, present and demanding of attention.
    • Taste
      86 86
Mild start. Slightly creamy, a little spicy. According to the nose you would have expected more here (at least for the start). Comes slowly with a little pepper and nutmeg, dark chocolate and malt. But remain a little cautious.
    • Finish
      84 84
Just medium length. Light pepper, dark chocolate, malt.

  4. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

I find it very tasty and extremely sweet, I don't remember it as sweet, but a really wonderful dram time and again.
    • Nose
Very sweet, a lot of sweetness from the sherry, without taking away the intense tart and woody notes. A fine maritime sweetness, slightly rotten, harbor basin in the background, subtle smoke, a really great combination that smells better than you can now tell from the associations.
    • Taste
in the mouth then also very sweet, round, with a nice dirty edge and the great smoke, with candied fruit.
    • Finish
In the finish the famous "Chili-Catch" that stays on the tongue. In addition, some tobacco and nice peat notes with a maritime touch.

A very well balanced Talisker DE. It’s way better balanced than the 2002 and 2005 editions that were sweeter and a bit more one dimensional. This 2001 version got it all and I like it! Maritime aromas mixed with earthy peat and smoke, counterbalanced by oranges, berries and toffee sweetness. But also spices like chili, peper, liquorice and a dash of eucalyptus. A steal for its original price of €49,95.

Nice mixture of slight smoke and fruity notes, smooth without being too weak.
    • Nose

Some slight peat, ash, fruity as well. Some red fruit, salry, organic. A bit of leather as well.
    • Taste
      87 87
Pretty smooth, some slight pepper, salty, sweet fruity with only a hint of smoke.
    • Finish
      87 87
Still pretty smooth, some more ash and smoke, sweet fruits, pretty long.

very nice whisky. the classic tallisker flavours are still there, but the sherry cask adds some interesting tones without being too sweet. Water doesn't bring very much, a bit more citrus and less smoke
    • Nose
      88 88
plums and light raisins, light peat, lemon peel, forest honey, dark caramel, cracked pepper, apricots, salty (salicornia!), peppermint, bit of apple
    • Taste
      88 88
Smokey fish, raisins, hint of strawberry, pepper, salty, honey, baking spices, hint of apple, orangepeel. Sweetness becomes more apparent after letting it sit for a bit
    • Finish
      89 89
warm, pepper, orange zest, very nice

    Tasty peated whisky.
A lot of pepper and spices. Stimulates nicely on the tongue and with the aftertaste.

This is one of the best affordable whiskies I had to date, although I cannot say I've tasted more than 30-35... amazing stuff from Talisker, I used to love the 10 year old, but I compared them the other night and this Distillers Edition is just on a whole other level

    Good sherry Tally, young, but very pleasant, well-balanced, with the distillery style traditionally growing in development - ash, sea notes, leather, lemon;
    • Nose
Restrained, dry, boards, dried fruits - apricots, raisins; creamy notes, toffee, sweet confectionery shades - baklava, cake with jam; leather goods, lemon peel, mineral and sea tones, light peat tones.
    • Taste
Soft, oily, sweet-woody, pepper wave, berry jam, creamy notes, caramel, light shades of burnt crackers and kvass, dry medicinal herbs, peat in development, leather goods, mineral motifs.
    • Finish
Spicy, sweet and sour, oak, herbal notes with bitterness, pepper, ginger, peat, leather, tobacco leaf.

    Aroma / Nose feeling:
Yes, of course - the sea and the gentle smoke that blows over the salty campfire with the salty wind. Wet sand, flattering sweetness and fragrant influence of the sherry barrel. Chocolate alternates with slightly fruity acidity of the lemon. Very harmonious!

    Taste / mouthfeel:
Not too, but creamy and sweet in the mouth. Here, the vanilla comes to light and joins the chocolate with sea salt and the smoked ham - always alternating with the fruity notes. The smoke presents itself in perfectly balanced strength. The light tickling on the tongue is fun. The malt never gets bitter and has a balanced spiciness.

    Finish / aftertaste / Length:
Warming and dangerously savory, the scotch from the Isle of Skye runs down the throat. Only a little wood comes to light. The malt remains (medium) long and can be wonderfully to taste.

    Overall impression / comment:
The DE of Talisker are hardly better to realize than like this 2001er. For this% ABV and the price range almost outrageously good. The single malt leaves a stimulating and invigorating impression. Incl. Guaranteed salivation ????

    Points:
    90/100

On the nose, it's a "fruity Talisker". Honey and sherry are very noticeable. The smoke is not too invasive and goes well with the aforementioned flavors. In the mouth, full, frank, creamy, spicy, we find the duo smoke / sherry. Fairly sweet finish on the ashes, a little malt, dry and peppery (the signature Talisker!). No fault, only qualities, except that I felt exactly what I expected. It's supposed to be a good thing, you tell me, especially if you buy a bottle - it's not my case here, but what do you want, after 587 whiskys tasted, I like to be a little jostled, surprised. (Would I become difficult?) Enthusiasm 3/5

    • Taste

    Followed by September 2015
    • Nose
Compared to the Talisker 10 significantly less smoke, the bacon note not noticeable. Instead, sweet sherry, smoke and spiciness combine here. Pepper. Salt and algae still there. Thanks to the probably strong burned sherry barrels a brown sugar note. The sherry provides a minty freshness and fruitiness, which is not found on the 10s. Dried fruits. It gives a little the impression of mojito, limes and brown sugar. Slight rum note.
    • Taste
sweet arrival, always strong, light smoke, chili catch. Brown sugar, caramel, pepper, a little salt and maritime notes. Dried fruits. Sherry clearly noticeable. In the mouth intense and creamy.
    • Finish
Smoke rises, on the palate remains sweetness, raisins and barbeque. Cocoa. Long, pleasant finish.

A classic Talisker with added sherry value, it's good and very complex, though maybe a bit tricky
    • Nose
Dried dark fruit, fruit jam, hazelnut - so clear sherry traces. At the same time, however, traces of citrus fruit spilled with honey, chocolate, peat, mint and other spices
    • Taste
At the beginning, all known pepperiness combined with woody, nuts, chocolate, peat. In the background, marmalade sweetness comes down from the background to suppress it in the end with typical taliskeric spiciness and salt
    • Finish
Spices, chocolate, nuts, menthol, salt, lacquers - very long

Lovely dram with a nice sherry influence that combines perfectly with the distillery character. It gives an umami whisky, with fruit and earthy elements. These are not the only notes you can discover, there is more. Lovely.
    • Nose
umami! Soy sauce, salted caramel, marzipan / salted almonds, red fruits and ripe figs, lemon, orange, soft, damp peat, tobacco leaves, eucalyptus, licorice and wood smoke. A lot to discover! With water: leafier (tobacco, eucalyptus, mint)
    • Taste
Pepper, fruit, fig, apricot, soft salted peat, cooling on mint, tobacco and aniseed. A bit of cough syrup.
    • Finish
Long, slightly drying on pepper, with a mix between wood smoke and peat, salted cod, tobacco and soft fruit.

The nooks and crannies that make the 10s unique are softened by the sherry ripening, but the Distillers Edition is more complex and balanced
    • Nose
sweet ripe figs, pine needles, burned wood, very mild smoke, instead the scorched note, smoked salmon, physalis, green grapes, pipe tobacco, vanilla, peach
    • Taste
creamy, full and sweet, smoke in the background, deep fruity and elegant, some gingerbread
    • Finish
The pepper sharpness of the 10s is not immediately there, but develops with slight oak bitterness and fruity notes of mandarin and hazelnuts

  26. Matt80 scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Aniseed, peat smoke, sea salt, dry sherry, dates, hints of candied fruit, hoisin sauce, smoked salmon.

      With water - slightly fruitier
    • Taste
Sea salt, spicy, dry sherry, sea food, furniture polish, peat smoke.

      With water - slightly sweeter.
    • Finish
Lots of seas salt, long, spicy, dry.

      With water - less drying.

    Talisker 2001 ‘Distillers Edition’
(45,8%, OB 2012, Amoroso sherry finish)

Nose: crisp, balanced and relatively fruity. Sets off on coastal aromas and lots of oranges. Hints of yellow plums and raisins. Tobacco leaves. Trademark pepper but in a mild way. Mouth: very nice, now the peat smoke comes out more. Earthy notes, pepper again, balanced by a vague toffee / fruit sweetness in the background. Fades on heathera and mint. Finish: long, spicy with hints of pepper, dried fruits and herbs.

Very mild and fruity on the nose, only on the palate does the volcanic character of Talisker come out. A well balanced whisky, better than the standard 10 in my opinion. Prices tend to go from € 45 to around € 65.

    Score: 87/100

    everything is very well coordinated
    intense and strong
the spices and the sea dominate
but the delicate fruit and extra sweetness enhance this Talisker significantly
    A really great whisky
    • Nose
here again typical Talisker, made by the sea
the aroma is much more alert and lively compared to the Dark Storm
the flavors waft back and forth, it remains exciting
the sea, iodine, salt, fresh citrus fruit, hints of apricot and orange, spices, a herbal tuft
Smoke? Not particularly strong, combines with the spices and the sea flavors
    • Taste
      a hello-waking start, bamm, chili-catch
      then immediately fruity sweetness
take over the spices and the sea
      then again sweet, almost honey-sweet
the oak comes to it, slightly bitter, abrasion of an orange peel
even in the taste of the smoke is incorporated into the other flavors and can only be guessed
    • Finish
When the other flavors slowly fade, a light and pleasant smoky residue remains in the mouth, more in the throat than on the palate
      Orangenzest

very nice both for enjoying and for the cool drink in between
    both refreshing, warming and fiery
The 2012er I like the end, a bit better than the 2006er The 2012er is here a little more refreshing and a little more exciting and versatile
    • Nose
Talisker, lots of salt, peppery notes mingle with ripe cherries, nut, very stimulating
    • Taste
Salt, smoke, permeated with oily sweet freshness
      > a nice smoke on the palate> sharpness, pepper, oily sweetness, kiwi
    • Finish
medium length, chewing tobacco, soft licorice, salt, dry,> slightly bitter, smoke> delicate sweetness,

  34. Abydoss scored this whisky 93 points Member Senior

The harmony is not quite as outstanding here as in the 1998s. The smoke is still very well integrated, but the fact that it goes more towards a cold campfire, it stands out a little more intense. That gives him a plus in my nose compared to the 1998, but he loses the balance again. Overall not better or worse than the 1998er. Just a little different, really just nuances. Absolutely comparable and both just absolute top products.
    • Nose
Smoke away from the front, but mild and wonderfully aromatic, not aggressive and superimposing everything. The smoke has phenolic notes but is a bit colder towards campfire than the 1998s.

Then sweetness and fruitiness of sherry (which are much more intense here than in 1998). Add vanilla sweetness and a touch of oak. Despite the 45.8% no alcoholic stinging in the nose. In the background intense aromatic dark (baking or dry) fruits.

After the first sip, the vanilla in the nose becomes more dominant.
    • Taste
Away away a tingle on the tongue by the famous chili-catch. The mouth fills with the aromatic smoke, which is also here a little colder compared to the 1998er. Then seasoning and a little bitterness of oak. Maltiness (a little less than the 1998) paired with a very light Sherry sweetness.
    • Finish
The medium long finish is tingling, intense malty and a little dry. Above all lies subtle smoke. The chili-catch tingling lasts much longer here than in the 1998s.

I lined up the Distillers Editions from 1998 to 2001, and then this one stands out as the peatiest whereas the 1998 version had a lot more sherry fruit. The quality remains pretty consistent though.
    • Nose
Sherry, peat, caramel, cappucino, vanilla, cloves and leather. If you let it breathe for a while also lighter fruits such as peach and lime.
    • Taste
Sherry, iodinic sea salt, peat, caramel, dark chocolate, orange, vanilla, cinnamon, apple, chestnut and raspberry.
    • Finish
Sherry, peat, mocha, vanilla and salami.
