Whisky Reviews for Pride of Islay 12-year-old GM

8 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 83.72 points

  1. Jean-Brice scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Atypical, I like this kind of profile that we do not cross in recent malts even if there is no complexity.
    • Nose
Smoked, vegetal, peaty and finesse. Chlorophyll, a little lavender, evokes some Bowmores 80's but better, and a HP 12 years of 2005. Almonds.
    • Taste
Sweet, in prolongation of the nose.
    • Finish

  3. NamorX68 scored this whisky 85 points Expert Junior

    • Nose
Campfire smoke, sweet but sour at the same time, sherry, fruity, apricots, root vegetables, oak and milk chocolate.
    • Taste
oily, buttery, sweet and fruity, smoke, espresso, sherry.
    • Finish
      medium long, smoke, spicy

  4. malthead-sven scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

very complete package, nothing misses, but it also stands out nothing. 43 - 46%, European barrels, is very reminiscent of a Bowmore, maybe the 18s
    • Nose
Blind tasting! sweet peat smoke, sherry, slightly burnt, a bit of leek and celery, mint, toothpaste, pine needles, ripe and sweet fruits come through later
    • Taste
slight spiciness, pepper, smoke and sweetness, nice spicy and balanced
    • Finish
smoky and sweet again, some blood oranges, then the oak comes through, medium long

Leave well alone and buy something else.

Another bottle for the mixer cupboard.

Theas is easy to drink because it is so undemanding. This bottle has just been opened and it had a good fill level so no oxidisation should have taken place.

Very poor , verging on rubbish.
    • Nose
Sweet but also pungent on smoked cheese which reminds me of an Ardbeg.

Peat is there but its in the background, some white fruts, pear and apple.
    • Taste
Flat, watery and weak with faint peat, lemon sherbet and hints of milk chocolate.

Gets better with time in the glass but still not up to much.
    • Finish

  8. MaltMartin scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

Old vatted malt. May be some OBE in it.
    • Nose
Lots of herbs to start with. Nettle-soup. Cut-grass. Hints of sherry as well. Even some sweet-sour stable associations. Gentle smoke.
    • Taste
Meaty, robust and quite creamy. Peat is more clear now. Cough syrup. Almond nuts. Carraway. Also slightly metalic.
    • Finish
Medium long. A little black pepper. Salty at the end.
