I do not think water is needed

    With water:-

More cream now on the nose, but the palate falls away a little but the peat is still in abundance.

No need for water with this one, neat its a 90 pointer and the best young peater I have had for some time, 5 years only, wow.

    Definately worth buying.
    • Nose
Peat and straw, that's what hits you, lemon, brine, icing sugar, smells like a younger Port Ellen.
    • Taste
Whoa, fresh peat bomb of the fruity young kind that again reminds me of Port Ellen. Its a clean, crisp peat mixed with apple and lemon.

For the high strength it is very drinkable, the fruit grows with time then there is a lot of cream but the peat is dancing on the tongue so to speak
    • Finish
      Quite long, sweet & zesty.

Strange dram. From the nose you would not expect such strong and explosive dram. A bit too wild for me but cannot say was not interesting.

Blind tasting notes from homemade Advent 2017 calendar, gentle gift of friends.
    • Nose
Iodine first, quite mild. Liquirice root as well
    • Taste
Interesting but tough: spring water with plenty of salt. Overpeated
    • Finish
Pungent, fire at throat with lot of gunpowder

[September, 2011]  Together with friends I emptied bottle no. 56 that I bought for 69 Euro in November, 2006.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  My notes state an extremly peaty yet delicious taste.

These scores are for neat, its a belter of whisky. This was actually bottled in 2004 not 2003 as stated.

nose: peat ,smoke ,ashes, smoked bacon, burnt tea leaves, cocoa powder really powerfull and quite complex ..

mouth: strong attack on earthy peat, oolong tea, herbal peat smoke, slightly mineral and coastal

finish: quite long for its age with mineral and citrus aspects now accompanying this wonderfull old school earthy peatiness

with water some fruits are added

wow a really powerfull and balanced young peated jura with the leafy and earthy peat elements giving an extra dimension to this peat beast

    WHISKYFUN
    Isle
    of Jura 5 yo 1999/2004 (61.3%, OB
    for The Whiskyfair, cask #144)

Colour: golden straw. Nose: ah, here’s
something subtler. Lots of peat smoke
again, but also some burnt leaves,
cold ashes, beer, cooked apples. Again
it isn’t too complex but rather
    interesting and smoother than #19.
Develops on hay and freshly cut grass.
    Mouth: yawn, it’s strong! Biting,
pungent, yet sort of sweet. What a
beast! Lots of peat smoke, grass and
cold coffee. A rather simple one,
though, even if much more balanced
than #19. I like it better, no doubt.
Besides, the water works well with
this one, helping many fruity flavours
    to develop (apple compote). 85
    points

OB for The Whisky Fair 2005
N: peat all over the place` witch remind me of a young Ledaig
T: smoked ham, seaweed, oily and fireworks in the taste
    F: grains as in bread
this whisky needs to develop a few years, to young for me
