Direct hit, exactly my thing! This powerful and voluminous Sherrymalt offers the full range of sherry flavors. Krischen, raisins, oranges, caramel, Toasted flavors, chocolate, spices and much more. This filling has a distinctive character for me and impresses with its power and abundance of aromas. A great Christmas malt, I like it very much!

Dark and intense sherry aromas stand out majestically from the premium snifter and exude their bewitching aroma from afar. Dark raisins and dates mingle with subtle roasted aromas, ripe oranges and black cherries mix to a powerful and spicy nose. Cinnamon powder trickles into creamy milk chocolate, honey drips on the raisins and dates. The cinnamon flavor is becoming more intense, the dark forest honey ends in a strong caramel note. Minimal sulfur appears from time to time, the dark berries harmonize very well with the sweet caramel and the extreme cinnamon note. The creamy milk chocolate invites me opulently to the first sip, my salivation is almost unbraked ...
    • Taste
      90 90
Dark berries and fruit flatter the tongue at the first sip, spicy hints and creamy wood tones follow. Alcohol immediately becomes noticeable with a pleasant burning sensation on the tongue and between the lips. Spices mix with fruity orange and black cherries, the milk chocolate transforms over time into bitter dark chocolate. Cherries and currants dissolve, creamy caramel ends in an intense spicy note. The cinnamon aroma from the nose is also very present in the taste and tasty. Intensive and voluminous, this malt exudes its sheer irrepressible power and leaves its chubby warmth with Christmas spices and dark fruit flavors on the palate.
    • Finish
      90 90
Warm and powerful, the dark sherry flavors rest on the tongue. Dark chocolate mixes with a handful of hazelnuts. Spicy wood tones and a touch of leather exude an interesting aroma, again a hint of sulfur rises. The sulfur aroma is almost unnoticeable after a few moments, but the pleasant sharpness is intensified again, as are the ripe cherries and the cinnamon aroma.

    [March, 2013]  Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 52 Euro in February, 2013.In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  My notes state a perfect modern style sherried dram with no flaws.  Very quaffable...

In my opinion more impressive than Batch 2. Not as good as the best single casks but still deserves recognition as a high quality malt.
    • Nose
Based on sampling at a friend's. The sherry's heavier than in 12,15 or 18yo OBs, and covers the alcohol very well even when nosing it undiluted. The smell is deeper than A'bunadh's, and I'd guess this is a PX cask [not entirely correct, turns out it's a vatting of Oloroso and PX]. Nosed neat: A bit of nail polish, not much wood. Dates, sugar, and something a bit fatty which I guess will round out with water. Neat it's just too punchy so I'll add 2 teaspoons of water. Now there's the smell of fresh paint from a metal can followed by a bit of dough, wet clay, and for some odd reason I'm reminded of the smell of unwrapping the kind of a hamburger you'd get from a grill stand at 4am. It is a very good nose, very even and well defined.
    • Taste
This one can and should take a lot of water. It's a total waste as long as the mouth stays vicious and burning but water opens it up. And what a body it is now: soft, but neither slick nor silky. Rather it's like plush on tongue and very, very juicy. Dark chocolate, liquorice and a good dose of sherry in a very condensed, powerful hit.
    • Finish
Delightfully lasting and full compared to Glendronach 12,15, 18 or 21. The way it lingers is very satisfying.

A sherry bomb but very well integrated sherry, really good

  6. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Spicy sherry, yet relatively little tannins. For leather and "dark aromas". Woodier than the Glenfarclas 105. But equally good.

    BLIND TASTING

N: Bitter almond aroma, dark notes of sweet wine (sherry?), Yes almost rum notes, molasses, vanilla, cotton candy, slightly coconut. In the end, fresh-minty
M: Very nice. Candied hazelnuts, vanilla pudding, strong spices through mouth and nose. Cardamom, a little pepper, a little nutmeg. Very sweet, very spicy. Hardly any bitterness, ha and here maybe a small association of glue. Fermented grapes
A: Long, intense sherry notes and intense sweetness, the mouth is drying slowly ... Beautiful!

Tip: Do not believe in a bourbon. think that could be a Kavalan. intensive Fassreifung in the sweet wine barrel in the tropics can produce such flavors. 56%. A few years.

1st bath of this young whisky which imposes by its rather pronounced scents and invigorating!
the sherry is much less put forward, we feel a little glue, peppery spices, dust and cooked mandarin.
    • Nose
less roundness, rather rough form with dried fruits, walls and confits, but not candied, it is thinner, after a bit bitter coffee, a little malt, wood quite dry and strong! vanilla in return.

  9. Calmar scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

A magnificent sample of whisky, amazing aroma and taste, perfect balance, pronounced character, sane price - must have. Unfortunately, the batch 2 did not support the high bar, so if there is an opportunity - do not miss it.
    • Nose
A powerful wave of sweet dried fruits - raisins, dried apricots, lemon peels, mint, fragrant pipe tobacco, even more likely a wooden box in which were stored different types of tobacco and their smells mixed with the smell of wood, chocolate. A beautiful kaleidoscope of smells, then one other fragrance comes to the fore, replaces each other, strengthens, fades away, everything is very concentrated, the strength is felt, but it does not interfere, but as it emphasizes the power - you can enjoy it for a very long time. Excellent.
    • Taste
Bitterness of oak, grapefruit crust with sweetness of dried fruits (raisins prevails), powerfully, together, great, there is no desire to disassemble and analyze the components, you just want to enjoy, a wonderful balance, an ideal fortress.
    • Finish
Continuation of taste, bitter and sweet symphony of dried fruits and oak, light pepper / ginger, creamy toffee, boiled condensed milk, long, pleasantly refreshing.

These are notes from the blind test, which was prepared by Senoy at this year's Whisky Festival. It gives him great thanks for the excellent tasting. My second tasting of this whisky has gone well for a few years.
    • Nose
The smell is heavy, a lot of sherry. Fencing (that would affect PX?). Spices, chocolate. Sharpness of alcohol, pungency, a little windy, pancakes and figs. (93 b)
    • Taste
Very sweet, full, strong. Dried plums. Figs, dates. Sweet spicy, a lot of cinnamon. Overall, this is a great whisky. (93 b)
    • Finish
Alcohol is about 55%. It looks like Scotland, the area I'd give Highland, probably a single cask series from GlenDronach, age would guess 22 yo. Maximum, if it's a catch, it could still be Amrut Spectrum.
