Unpleasant sweet and smoky in the nose, a strange mix. Also to drink the mixture is unusual, malty sweet with some lemon but also bitter smoky notes. The finish is too long in this case, there remain bitter and sharp notes. This bottling is not belongs to my favorites, it shows us a bit of the distillery profiles and perhaps also the reason why there are not that many OB's.

[June, 2007]  I bought two bottles for 25,50 Euro each out of curiosity as I like the Port Ellen from this series a lot.In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 75.  Unfortunately no detailed notes were taken.  But I remember it very immature, unbalanced, with a lot of flaws and an unpleasant bitterness.  After two drams I donated the rest of this bottle and the other unopened one to a party where it was used in whisky-cola drinks.  So if you own a bottle do not open it - unless your tastebuds are blocked anyhow...

  5. St. Pauli scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

No shame if you missed this one.
    • Nose
Sweet, vanilla and confectionery, with herbs like aniseed, mint and grass. Later, the nose develops for the worse: a musty side (overcooked porridge, cheese, sweat socks, cellar mold).
    • Taste
Again, very sweet: vanilla, candies, but also this overcooked porridge. Still on the musty side. Later, pepper enters.
    • Finish
Still sweet, malty, with vanilla, and tons of pepper.
