    Aggressive, chemical, with the aroma of medical and technical subjects, a first-aid kit, bandages, sleeves, smoked meat, rubber and sour cherries, spiced with pepper, fish and smoked salted bacon, long finish with notes of citrus and smoked.
    Champion and holder of the title "most repulsive whisky for beginners." The basic release of Lafroyg is commendable, with a chic and brutal profile. I always want to return to him.

    I like the smell well, it fades in the mouth, but the finish increases again and is very long. Despite the low alcohol content of the whisky is strong. A solid bottling.
    • Nose
      sweet smoke, pear and lemon, the whisky behind the smoke is very mild and soft, a touch of anise, hardly oak, a little vanilla, plus a fresh herbal note, lemon balm, dill
    • Taste
      Noticeable start, light body, suddenly there is oak, which was missing in the nose, some lemon, the smoke comes late, but powerful
    • Finish
      Sweet smoke, milk chocolate, getting bitter, slightly bitter herbs, Wick Medinight, long

    My gateway to the world of peat. Now its too sweet for me. And I also dislike, that its only 40 %. Well and also chill-filtered and artificially coloured. Those medicinal tones were fun though.

    Dear European Laphroaig 10,

    Twenty years back, I would have killed to stick with you. I found you explosive, fun and bold.
    But then I grew old, gained in maturity and you are still sadly 40°. I will not mention the artificial make up you keep using.
    We are not friends anymore...

    Color: pale gold

    Nose: cold ashes, medicinal peat (easy to say but clearly true), eucalyptus, bourbon bole influence, fresh grass. Nose rather balanced, not invasive alcohol.

    Palate: peat typical of the distillery, alcohol well integrated, does not seem so little alcoholic for its 40%. Vanilla, slight impression of sniffing perfume in retro-olfaction. Spicy impression that I can not describe more precisely.

    Final: rather long! All the aromas do not stay in the mouth but the peat is needed, with a minty side very present.

    The "real" starter in the smoky Laphi world!
    Very smoky - slightly spicy in the mouth (40%) - an interesting, neat, inexpensive Islay Malt!
    • Nose
      strong, phenolic smoke; sweet pears, lemons, delicate vanilla;
    • Taste
      intense onset, smoke increases significantly, in the mouth almost watery, mild, soft, fruity, malty, sweet, vanilla;
    • Finish
      long, oily finish; slight spiciness and smoke fade away;

  9. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

    Peat smoke, medicine and plenty of vanilla. Beautifully balanced, despite the extremes. Always good.

  10. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    A classic. If he had more than 40%, he would probably get away even better, but there are once a year the CS.

      Slightly stinging, medical smoke, I associate the smoke with Laphroaig always with a cinnamon note, the smoke is dominant, behind it then sweet yellow fruits, malt, vanilla, grainy, freshly baked bread, some citrus, like grated lemon zest, other notes are always again killed by the musty, slightly cinnamon smoke
    • Taste
      87 87
      a bit watery from the mouth, then the taste starts, sweet start, in the mouth first less smoky, but then getting stronger, here too the cinnamon, yellow fruit, some oak, the fruit is ripe, so towards peach, passion fruit
    • Finish
      84 84
      sweet, still ripe fruit, here comes back to the medical on the smoke, a touch of disinfectant, towards the end also comes through vanilla, medium in length, the smoke itself is already persistent
