[April, 2018]  I had this dram during a FoSM club tasting.

A simple but easy-to-sip dram, recommended to enjoy without "analysis paralysis"...
    • Nose
      86 86
The colour is old gold and the texture shows small tears with slow legs. The nose offers a fine combination of malty and winey aromas with no one dominating the other. It is not complex but nicely balanced with some spices in the background.
    • Taste
      84 84
The taste is sweet and quite quaffable but a little simple too. Water is not needed.
    • Finish
      86 86
The whisky arrives warming and a little coating on the palate with a minor astringent feeling. The finish is of medium length with more spicy flavours (peppers, ginger, some salt) and without bitter-drying-astringent moments.

Nice laddie, solid and pretty tasty. The wine barrel is doing well. The nose is very exciting in my opinion, but the taste is unfortunately a bit one-dimensional.

Probably great for the issue price at the time, but of course totally aloof these days.
    • Nose
      87 87
Fresh red fruits, malty sweetness. Appears relatively 'creamy' and almost a bit syrupy. Significant influence of the wine barrel. Over time, the fruits become more exotic and even sweeter. Some kiwi, mango and very sweet red berries. In addition, light toffee notes and a sweetish citrus touch. In the background, tart wood notes that merge into chocolate. Constantly accompanied by one of the rather 'funky' notes that you can often find in Bruichladdich.
    • Taste
      86 86
Relatively tart, pleasantly dry, sweetish spices. In addition, restrained red fruits, which also go towards dried fruits. Dry orange peel and very delicate tart chocolate. A bit of dusty wood compliments the whole thing.
    • Finish
      85 85
Tender red fruits, slightly 'vinous', somewhat bitter, dusty wood. Over time, a very pleasant bitterness develops. Unfortunately a bit flat.

Very well done, without being remarkable. Enthusiasm 3/5 Whisky n ° 1631
    • Nose
Beautiful crunchy cereals. Fresh and salty. Some fruits - berries: blackcurrant. Promise to be juicy. Integration of alcohol a bit limited. Balanced but not very intense either.
    • Taste
Slightly sweet, well balanced spices, a little bitterness, just very fruity. We find everything, it's very nice if not memorable.
    • Finish
Easy, which pecks slightly with spices.

  11. Calmar scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Not a bad, but quite closed mantle, not very diverse in the components, but quite saturated and dense for its age and strength.
    • Nose
Fresh, sea, lemon, floral notes, sour green apples, lemonade, light mineral tones, generally quite closed.
    • Taste
Oak-peppery, sweet, slightly astringent, herbal bitterness, orange peels, cream.
    • Finish
Dry herbs, bitter-sweet with light lime sour, confectionery notes, cream, sweet, burnt rusks.

    • Nose
Chocolate, blackcurrant jam, fresh and coastal notes
    • Taste
      Sweet, fruity (melons), peppery
    • Finish
      Medium long, fruity, spicy

  14. granella2003 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

First whiffs picks up garden fresh aromas of rose petals, jasmine and grain; further aeration stimulates elements of spice, newly tanned leather, citrus and grapes. Palate entry is wonderfully floral, fruity and winey; midpalate features spicy notes that complement the assertive grainy alcohol. Finishes medium-long, astringent, crisp, winey and satisfying

"The eighth addition to Bruichladdich`s long-running `Links` series depicts a hole from the Torrey Pines golf course in the USA."
