  1. Baanaanaabob scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

    Delicious exotic 76 benriach

  2. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

A fantastic Riach, great exotic fruitiness together with the typical dry-kräutrigen and the dirty undertone with a lot of power, wonderful!
    • Nose
Distinct exotic fruit, mango and passion fruit, some pineapple, banana and orange peel, coriander, nutmeg, cinnamon and a little mint, licorice, fresh and a hint of smoked notes from Riach
    • Taste
Lots of organic honey, papaya, guava, melon, lots of power, fine pepper and even some curry, lemon zest, banana and some grapefruit, orange zest
    • Finish
Long, fresh, orange peel, grapefruit, some melon, pepper, nutmeg and dark malt

    Serge says:

    Benriach
    32 yo 1976/2008 (50.3%, OB, hogshead,
    cask #2014, 271 bottles)

    Colour: pale gold. Nose: there’s
more happening in this one than in
the 1977, even if the overall profile
    is rather similar. Emphatically fruity
(same notes of tangerines and bananas
but also passion fruits and mangos
here), more herbs as well (dill, mint,
coriander) and whiffs of fresh pastries,
orange blossom and touches of leather.
    This one is exceptionally aromatic
    but never ‘heavy’. A wonderful
    cask! Mouth: superb attack! Wonderfully
    citrusy (lemon marmalade, kumquats,
    tangerine liqueur), going on with
    notes of peppermint and coriander
(even a little savory), with the spices
soon to kick in (curry, Szechuan pepper).
    Constantly fresh and lemony. With
water (even if water is probably not
obligatory here): a little more on
    orange zests. Exceptionally good.
    Finish: long, fresh, superbly fruity,
even if less exuberant than at the
    attack. That’s good news actually,
otherwise it would have been a little
tiresome ;-). Comments: one of these
    great old Benriachs, enough said.

    Color: Gold

    Nose :
Attack on vanilla, coconut and honey.

    The nose evolves
then to the typical exotic fruits of this vintage: pineapple,
    mango, passion, melon.

    All the aromas are
perfectly melted, a beautiful wood / fruit balance and a freshness
beautiful for a 32 year old whisky.

    At the 2nd nose some
    vinous notes appear.

    Mouth :
In the same scenario, first the flavors of wood: vanilla, coconut
and honey which evolve then towards the exotic fruits: passion,
    papaya, guava.

    The finish is average
    on beautiful notes of spices.

    This 4th release
official BenRiach 76 is less exuberant than the others
    versions but still excellent.
