  1. Mannix65 scored this whisky 76 points Connoisseur

Little complex, Easy Drinking, has unfortunately nothing to do with the old sherry bottlings, which once made Macallan the "Mercedes" among the malts, disappointing
    • Nose
Orange zest and lime, some vanilla, fresh bread, subtle herbal aroma, sherry only in the background
    • Taste
Citrus fruits, some spices, vanilla and hardly any sherry
    • Finish
      Short and irrelevant

Got it three times as a gift in my order. But the other two eke out their existence on the shelf. Life is too short......
    • Nose
A little of everything but not enough of any.
Hidden vanilla and a hint of caramel.
Detached from minimal citrus freshness or is it just the peel? .... some flower meadow sticks.
    • Taste
He starts pretty peppery. Typical orange-lemons as well. A hint of ginger.
      But stay sweet.
    • Finish
The end is a more chocolatey oak. Then he's gone. Without an impression.

I know this is the basic Macallan offering but with the name Macallan you expect a little more.

This is a run of the mill whisky, very average to be honest and rather boring, perfectly sippable I am just a little surprised that Macallan would offer such a whisky.

What I look for in any distillery is that the basic offerings have a decent profile and make me want to explore bottlings of more age and character from their line up, stuff like this does not.

And the misery took its course .....

    - still clearly young, yet harmonious but also
    rather restrained in the aromas
    - not only the cheapest, but also by far
the "worst" of the series 1824
    - is not a bad whisky (so for 25 € - 30 €) but for
what Macallan wants, the joke in bags ...
    • Nose
dry slightly bitter sherry, oak, spicy, lime
    • Taste
surprisingly strong and spicy start, bitterness, subtle sherry aromas, a lot of spice, a little pepper, light sweetness, but everything is harmonious but very reserved
    • Finish
      short, crisp, spicy finish;
short strong aftertaste (hint of chocolate)

Pretty lackluster stuff lacking personality. Really can't distinguish the Gold from the Amber. Sienna and Ruby are more distinct, albeit the price for both but especially the Ruby was not justified imho.
