  1. Robinzon25 scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

    A simple, monotonous molt, without interesting moments and special flaws.
    • Nose
      The first nose is beaten plum and cherry, rye bread. Deeper - the sea, algae, citrus fruits, wet boards.
    • Taste
      Bread, sorrel, apple and sour, mixed with ginger and hazelnuts.
    • Finish
      Short, scorching, brackish, with a trail of shades of plum jam, dried fruit and oak, slowly turning into bitterness.

    - a really strong whisky with a lot of "boom"
    - a striking character of a dry sherry whisky
    - but unfortunately it quickly loses taste
    - interesting start, but then it becomes rather average, BUT still drinkable
    • Nose
      mild, fresh, malty, dry sherry, raisins
    • Taste
      unexpectedly strong very strong start, lots of volume and power, clearly dry sherry notes, raisins, plums, dark chocolate, here you can still notice the youth and the lack of age
    • Finish
      medium length finish, medium to long dry fruity aftertaste, spice reverberates

  5. schengel10 scored this whisky 76 points Connoisseur

    An interesting malt!
    [Color gold;
    • Nose
      ripe citrus fruit, bourbon vanilla, full spicy oak;
    • Taste
      a powerful, tingling onset, lots of fruit, orange zest, strong spice (oak), leather (?), very creamy, still young;
    • Finish
      mid-length fruity finish; spicy finish;

    Nose: Big on fresh, light fruits—green apples, pears, peaches. Like walking through an orchard. Some citrus fruits too. There’s also a good amount of vanilla, butterscotch, and brown sugar, indicating this was aged mostly in bourbon barrels. Not the most complex nose, but really quite nice.

    Palate: The taste is a continuation of the nose, but subdued.  The pear is particularly prominent, but the other fruits are now more in the background. There is a good amount of maltiness and barley sugar. Some astringent oak. Ethanol. Heather. Honey. The arrival is pretty nice, but the backend turns a touch bitter, exposing youth. Ultimately the palate doesn’t quite live up to the nose, although it is fairly pleasant.

    Finish: Short. Almost nonexistent. Pear. Oak. Astringent. Fades fast.

    Overall: The nose is good, but the palate is fairly mediocre (not bad, but nothing special). The finish, or lack there of, really drags this down. The overall outcome is that this is a very average whisky, and my score reflects that. It’s not bad, but it’s not good either. If I were to come to your house and you served me this, I’d happily drink it, but it’s not something I’d seek out or be likely to buy again. That said, I think the base spirit is quite good, and all this whisky really needs is more time in a barrel. If the finish was even half decent, my score would be several points higher. In no way has this whisky turned me off to other anCnoc bottlings—quite the opposite. I really would like to see how this spirit does with some more substantial (and known) age.

    Weakest AnCnoc I`ve tasted so far. Bought a bottle for my collection (because I generally like AnCnoc), and I recently got a sample. I was a bit disappointed. While this was still good whisky, I don`t think that sherry cask maturation suits AnCnoc. Pretty much everything I liked about the 12 y.o. and the 16 y.o. is gone.

    A particularly warming anCnoc with a fairly full
    • Nose
      Sweet vanilla with rich and spicy toffee aromas. With time a fresher fruity
      aroma of citrus fruits emerges.
    • Taste
      The palate remains sweet and spicy with some
      Christmas cake and some candied orange peel.
    • Finish
      The finish is warm with notes of sweet sherry and
      winter spice
