Just the right time to fill this malt. Round and balanced, without missing the typical Crunchy appearance Caol Ila.
    • Nose
Seaweed, plum kernels, a hint of smoke and some beeswax
    • Taste
overripe plums, mocha beans, salty smoky notes
    • Finish
All components open in a dry smoke wave

It is a whisky well done but that leaves me perplexed because I do not appreciate it half. It seems to me a little imbalanced towards the sweet oily at the expense of finesse and the power of aromatic expression.
    • Nose
Spray, that's what gets you right now, with smells of smoke: is there a campfire somewhere on this coast? Fruity notes then appear: strawberry, apricot. Muscatel is present in the background, bringing sweetness and overripe fruit. The heart of this nice nose is all in minerality. On the top, chemical vapors.
    • Taste
Full, oily, soft and round like all Caol Ila of the official range. More woody (white oak) than the nose, and more smoke too (hearth). The fruitiness persists, but more green (carambola).
    • Finish
Medium but good persistence of the iodine-smoked character with traces of bitterness (carambola, sage, laurel among others).

The nose is promising, freshness, peat, iodine and a little lemon.
But the mouth does not follow at all ... it's flat, nondescript, bland. The length is short ;-)

A very nice, strong Islay whisky. The best Caol Ila for me so far.
    • Nose
Strong, iodine, bourbon-like sweetness, peat, tar, smoke, malty. Typical iodine Caol Ila.
    • Taste
Smoky, iodine, peat, full bodied, strong, caramel, oaky.
    • Finish
A bit dry, warm, smoke and peat, oaky bitter, nice.

Wonderfully balanced. Even sweeter with a little water. But does not have to.
    • Nose
Peat smoke. Something medically but very fruity.
    • Taste
Malty sweet. Spicy. Caramel. Some iodine.
    • Finish
      Medium. Pleasantly smoky and sweet.

  14. Ivynor scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

A little disappointing. The nose seems more interesting, but the rest does not follow.
    • Nose
Smoke, iodine, hazelnuts, a little dry sherry, citrus fruits and herbs.
    • Taste
Same profile, a little dry, short, woody and green.
    • Finish
Medium, on wood, dry sherry (gives the impression of a dry oloroso), acrid, and some notes of orange peel.
