Whisky Reviews for Brora 11th Release

  1. Dram Dracula scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

While very good, this is not better than some of the 1973 speysides that came out in recent years at a fraction of the cost.
    • Nose
Lovely nose. Chocolate nougats followed by coconuts and sugarcane, followed by rambutans, yellow peach, and pineapple
    • Taste
Complex. Wave and wave of flavors, but not a fruit bomb. Nothing jumps out at you, but there are myriads of little flavors tickling your senses. Slightly medicinal and peaty. Honey and lemongrass.
    • Finish
Medium length. Would prefer a bit more oomph and power.

I added some water and the nose really opened up but I felt the palate was compromised at 48.1%. I preferred it neat.
The nose is delicate and I was not expecting the peat level that I found but thats why I love Brora because its not just about peat , its mixed in with so many other flavours, far too many to mention.
This is really really good, in my opinion even better than the 2011 32 year, but in fairness that was 54.7%. This is a perfect drinking strength Brora.
    A complex and rewarding dram.
    • Nose
      Notes from February 2015
Delicate on sweet smoke, cinder toffee, werthers originals, brown sugar, grapefruit.
    • Taste
Peat is obvious, smoke , coal dust, bitter, a little butterscotch with fruit at the finish, its very smooth.
    • Finish
      Long and smooth, refined.

    BRORA 35yo / 48.1% OB BOTTLED IN 2012 Bottle No.0124 / 1566

Gorgeous fragrance stand, Orange, Muscat juice, discreet wheat feeling, elegant fragrance

Fruity, as fragrant as gorgeous, discreet and elegant peat, creamy flavor

Body moderately, it is glamorous that continues from taste and finish of pepper series.

From the fragrance to the gorgeous impression blower, from elegance to taste to finish.

Master says "elegant highland milk". There is no complaints.

Perhaps I think that this taste is wife preference ...

EXCELLENT as it`s become usual in most Broras but less powerful than the previous release and some other annual releases

There are certain notes in whisky that really make it special for me and Brora just has them all, the leather, the farmy notes, the citrus & dark chocolate. This was a really fantastic one, the ABV was just right, the balance was just right, and the atmosphere was just right too.

    • Nose
Leather. Old sherry notes. Waxy fruit peels. Farm notes, cow pie, earth and hay. Orange peel in dark chocolate. Honey.
    • Taste
Very woody maple syrup. Charred wood. Bitter sherry. Roasted nuts. Bit of coal dust and bitter citrus.
    • Finish
Long. Bitter wood. Leather. Wintergreen. Mild farmy notes again, perhaps even a tad medicinal.
