Whisky Reviews for Laphroaig 1998 ANHA

Nose: hmmm quite a lot of sweets, elements typical of Laphroaig, i.e. some medicine and smoke. Everything is very well balanced.
Taste: At the beginning, a lot of sweets which then turn into peat-smoke elements. Nice combination. Of course, the aroma is very strong. On top of that, the alcohol is well hidden - a really decent whisky!
Rating: 89 | 100 Medium long finish with smoke profile. I'm sure that if I had to guess what the bottle was in the blind test, I wouldn't have guessed it. Very intriguing and also good Laphroaig

It tastes older than it is. and has some really unusual interesting notes. Very well balanced mixture of sweetness and peat. I am not a fan of finished whisky, but this is a good one. I think that the original Bourbon cask was a little bit too smooth, so they decided to finish it. Was a good choice, cause the Port cask was great. Risky thing, but this time great.
    • Nose
sweet, peat, fresh .. you soon realize, that there is port in the game. But what a fine mixture. The Laphroaig is not really recogniseable in the nose. Hints of fruit (apricot perhaps?) very well balanced.
    • Taste
Wow. This goes on sweet like candy, but fresh inside. Very unusual sweetness. Then comes salty peatness and smoke. Wonderfull round and balanced, lingering down your throat. Now you can think of Laphroaig. Its very very smooth for the nearly 53%.
    • Finish
Salty, like an old Laphroaig, but not too long (sadly).
