  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

While Bushmills is today known the world over for its single malt Irish whiskey, at the end of the 19th century it was Coleraine Distillery which enjoyed that honour. It stopped making single malt whiskey in 1964 but continued as a grain plant until 1978. Coleraine is generally regarded as one of Ireland's greatest lost distilleries. According to Brian Townsend in its magnificant book 'The Lost Distilleries of Ireland', 395 bottles excist of this ultra-rare whiskey distilled in 1959. Really honoured to have tasted this whiskey. It's delicious.
    • Nose
A bit astringent at first. After a while fresh citric notes of lemon and lime. Orange peel. Touch of vanilla. Notes of aceton as well. Some grassiness. Roasted almonds at the background. This whiskey really needs time to open all its flavours.
    • Taste
Hot and acidic, but at the same time rather creamy with a mouthfilling texture. It's all very zesty with loads of gooseberries and pineapple. Kiwi and gaia melon. Also hints of honey and apple juice. Gentle spices of white pepper, aniseed, carraway and camphor. Lots of complexity going on here.
    • Finish
Medium long. Sweet bourbon oakiness. Lots of liquorice. Ginger.
Although the citric notes are well present, its not overwhelming the whiskey at all. I really like this style of whiskey.

  2. Mr.Sandwich did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Coleraine was once so prized it was the only Irish whiskey supplied to the House of Commons, however the distillery fell on hard times after WWII. This very rare cask strength edition was distilled in 1959 and bottled in 1993, fifteen years after the distillery's closure, although single malt had not been made there since the mid-1960s. A true collector's item, only 400 bottles were produced.
